Server Error Message - 6/18/2002 21:45:45
I have several websites on the same server. Suddenly - for no apparent reason one of them gives me the following error message when I try to publish to it: " The server couldn't log you on, because its only authentication scheme is NTLM and you are connected to it via a proxy server. Try adding the server to the Exceptions box in the Tools/Options/Proxy Settings/Advanced dialog, or request the server administrator to enable another authentication scheme." Can anybody help me with this?

Assuming you are running win98 or winME try the following... In the control panel click on the network icon. make sure client for microsoft networks is installed and also set as the primary network logon. Then open internet explorer and go to tools/internet options/security tab/click the custom level button and check the radio button for prompt for username and password(scroll to the bottom of the list) If you are connecting via a cable modem there is a slight possibility that your WPP has changed the security settings and your ISP proxy and the Host are not quite getting along. In this case you can ask your WPP to set the security level to basic/anonymous versus NTLM(not likely to happen) If you are using a dial-up connection you may want to check the following as well... 1.My computer/dial-up networking then R-click the connectoid for your ISP and select properties. click server type then logon to network and then click to clear the "require encrypted password" check box To give you further information/help I would really need to know 1.How you connect to the inet 2.What Operating System you are running 3.Do you have any firewall software installed I'll check back later :) Paul swaney www.dark-bane.com www.valleyofthesundogrescue.com

Thank you for your quick reply. I am running W2K professional and connect to the internet through a router to Rogers Cable. No Firewall software - the router acts as a firewall. But the starnge thing is that I can publish to about all of my sites and just 3 of them give me this problem. Thank's Gerhard quote: To give you further information/help I would really need to know 1.How you connect to the inet 2.What Operating System you are running 3.Do you have any firewall software installed I'll check back later :) Paul swaney www.dark-bane.com www.valleyofthesundogrescue.com

Thanks for the email, I responded a few minutes ago. I get a tad busy at times and can't always check the forums so feel free to just continue this in emails if you like. Paul swaney www.dark-bane.com www.valleyofthesundogrescue.com
