Finding/purchasing specialized fonts - 6/20/2002 16:17:01
Any suggestions where to find fonts, both free or for purchase? I'm also wondering if anyone's used a company that creates custom fonts. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, gail

http://www.fonts.com You can also try doing a search for fonts... I've never used any of them personally... ____ "There is too much apathy in the world, but I don't care."

Sorry, I was in a rush and didn't type out my inquiry very well. Yes,I've done a search, but am looking to see if anyone has had any experience having custom fonts made? Looking for recommendations based on satisfied experience. Thanks, gail

_gail, Custom fonts may be the way to go for print media, but for the Internet no one could view them. Even in the print media, you would have to send your font files to the printing firm so that they can complete the set up for your job. I have read that it takes a good font development team an average of four person years to create a font. Beginning at $25, Adobe sells a lot of fonts that their teams have developed. With years of experience behind them, the team creates fonts that are easily read and fit well with each other. Their font folio package is $8,999.00! Here is a place to start: http://www.typodermic.com/about.html The same person has freebies at http://www.larabiefonts.com/ Enjoy! It's your endeavor! That is true of fonts used as text - if they are part of an image anyone can view them. I have bought several fonts for use in images but have never thought of having one designed, or felt the need. If you feel really creative though you can make your own. Macromedia have a program that will help and while it sure is not cheap would certinaly cost less than having one designed I would imagine. This seems to be the rolls royce of font creators. http://www.macromedia.com/software/fontographer/ I did a bit of digging and, as there almost always is, there is a cheaper way - a shareware program you can play with before buying. I have to make myself NOT download this! I know if I do I will just end up playing with it and doing no work!! http://www.high-logic.com/fcp.html Katherine ++++++++++++++++++++++++ www.inkkdesign.com Women and cats will do as they please.
