odyssey -> when publishing says Svr Ext not installed (6/21/2002 16:52:00)

When I try to publish a web from my local workstation to the web server using HTTP I get this message: "The server you are publishing to does not have the FrontPage Server Extensions installed, and therefore does not support publishing via HTTP. To continue publishing, specify a location that will work with FTP."
The server extensions are installed and I have even uninstalled and reinstalled to be sure. (I know I can use FTP but I want to use HTTP and also would like to understand why I am getting this error). Any ideas would be appreciated!
