Stealth -> Site Critique - Thanks in advance (6/22/2002 1:13:14)

I do this site for the local high school, and would like to get your opinions on the navigation and graphics offered, unfortunately the alumni section is closed and being redone in ASP. That being said, take a look - http://www.uchsonline.com

Hi Stealth,
I looked at your site with IE 6.0, 800 X 600 and 28.8 on 56K.

All pages loaded fast and all links worked. I did however, get horizontal scroll bars of various lenghts on all pages.

I noticed you're using GuestMaps. Have you read all the information on Bravenet as to the limited number of entries. I believe its 100, afterwhich there's a monthly fee to increase the limit to 500. After the limit is reached, the oldest non-updated post is deleted to make room for the new one. We had fun with GuestMaps here a little while ago, pushing each other off the face of the earth.

I agree with John and suggest 2 other changes for consideration. (1) Move your date script. It tends to get lost with your links on the left side. (2) Put a border="0" on your Weather Underground logo. It will look much better.

All in all it is a very nice school site that loaded very fast.

Stealth,

All looks well when viewed in IE6, NN6.2 and Opera 6 (except as noted below). Confirming John's comments regarding horizontal scrolling, I was able to eliminate this problem on my 21" monitor. The unfortunate part of this turns out to be the inconvenience to the viewer. There does not seem to be any data or images that would be lost if one does not scroll.

On the organizations page, the link to DECA does not open in a new browser window in Opera 6 as it does in IE 6, and NN6.2.

On the vocational page, the page clips (overlays) a portion of the navigation at the top and the left. See this image: http://www.anthemwebs.com/images/UCHS.jpg

Enjoy! It's your endeavor!

Thanks everyone -
I have noticed that when you work on something, you tend not to see small annoyances. I have taken your suggestions, removed the border on the weather pic, inserted a row between the navigation and the date script, and no, I didn't see the bravenet 100 people problem, that would become quite an annoyance, so will probably just drop it. Thanks again for taking the time to look at the site - S
