A Simple Problem... as simple as they get! :) - 6/28/2002 17:24:44
Disclaimer: Don' t know much about databases or Access or DRW. :P

*cough* Having said that, I' m trying to have a form publish to a database that will be viewable on another page using the DRW. I tried following simple directions to the best of my ability but alas, I am lacking. :P

I set up a testform, to publish results to a database, and I set up a results page, where the results should be displayed. Everything was pretty much kept at default -- nothing special, but the results never come up, nor does the database ever have anything written in it no matter how many times I submit the form. So I guess that' s the root of the problem.

The two pages are:

http://www.apxonline.com/inquiry/testform.asp

http://www.apxonline.com/inquiry/testresults.asp

The database is saved in /fpdb/testform.mdb

I have no idea if it' s because of my host, I' ve been trying to tell for awhile if my host supports ASP or not (I' m ASP illitierate), and have emailed them but they haven' t gotten back to me. I' d appreciate if someone could take a glimpse at the two pages and see if what I did was right, which would point to my host.

Thanks a bunch!

Valaire,

It works now. I went to the form and right clicked in a the form, selected " Form Properties" then " Options" . Told it to update the database and AOK. You' re good to go. Check your email ASAP :):):):):):)

Hi...one more question. What would be the simplest way to have the results of the database wrap to the next line instead of having to right scroll to see all the columns (there' s a lot). Right now I' m trying to manually move around some of the columns but I was wondering if there was an easier supported way.

Thanks.

Okay, I moved the columns around in normal mode, and the little yellow sections denoting the start and stop of database region, but that just made a big mess and called a vb error so I' ll stop that til someone provides an answer :P

Thanks.

Valaire,

Something like this example here?

Not tidied up but not scrolling across the monitor either.

Have you checked your email yet?

Could you resend it, in any case, to Magiscythe@aol.com

By the way, thanks for the help!

Yeah, thanks, you saved my ass. :P Someone bright had changed it by accident. That' s why I don' t let anyone touch anything anymore. :P

So basically I can edit all the fields and keep the <<result>> structure within those tables to have complete freedom on how my database results come out, or should I expect errors along the way?

And another question...last one...honest... :)

Eventually my goal is to provide a cleaner output for that form using database results so that I can put them all nice in tables, similiar to how the form was actually inputted, because the people who read the e-mail with the list of fields and values don' t like it too much.

Now, if I want to use my database as the primary means of recording when a new record is available, instead of merely a backup, how do I send an email to the company whenever a new record is made, so they know to go check the database.

The problem is, once I click on ' send to database' for the form, I can' t still -also- send to file/send to e-mail.

Thanks again.

Now you' ve hit on something that has been on my wishlist since FP98.

You can start with a little " Spooky Tutorial" http://www.outfront.net/spooky/adv_email.htm

There are a couple of links at the bottom with other options.
