Import or download to Dreamweaver MX - 7/9/2002 21:55:12
I' m a newbie again.

Just acquired the Macromedia Studio MX.

I thought I would try to " publish" one of my sites from the web to Dreamweaver MX. For the life of me, I can' t figure how. Is this an FTP operation?

Thanks,

Hi

First thing to do is to define your site - Site>New Site - this is where you can name the site, give its location and also enter the ftp information.

You can then use the function " Put" to send files to the server or " Get" to download them. You also have the option " Synchronize Files" so you have the same content locally as remotely - that' s about it really.

Cheers
Andy

Dreamweaver is wonderful! It' s where I design all of my sites, actually.

A tip: When doing FTP...you can also just drag files, which I' ve found to be easier than using " Get" or " Put" . You have more control, and if you have subdirectories like I do, you can specify to which folder you want to upload the content.

Good luck!

Thanks,

Andy, I can see that this is going to be a long learning curve.

Enter FTP info? Will the W2K FTP exec work, or I' ve heard of CuteFTP and WP_FTP and have never used either.

Hi Charles

I would use Dreamweaver' s own ftp utility as it' s easier to keep things tidy. If you' ve already defined the site with the local info, you can then edit it to add the remote info. From the first drop down " Access" you' ll need to select ftp, the FTP host will probably be the URL of the site, the Host directory depends on your server set up but it' s usually something like /htdocs/ and written like that and then your login and password as in Frontpage. You can then hit the test button to check everything is working correct.

Once that' s done you can play around with the get, put, synchronize features - if you' re working with others the check-in / out is useful.

Let us know how it goes

All the best
Andy

get the ftp details (path, username, password) and enter them in the site definition in DW as mentioned above
