Hey guys,
well, with a lot of help from this forum and a few flash forums, I have managed to complete my first site. At least I think, I kinda had to rush outta work. So heres the link www.candlelightcab.com
They really should have had a professional work on it, but oh well right. Well, look at it and tell me what you think. Feel free to list any hnts that you can think of. And take it easy, I know its not the prettiest, Im new at this.

Skas,

It may be my connection but I kind of doubt it. I couldn' t even get the site to open and I' ve got cable. I got the copyright stuff at the bottom and nothing else, I started, mixed a drink, moved the meat on the grill, helped my son with his special " girlfriend cooking" came back and was at 50% but it didn' t go any further. Just how big is the file???

Tried again with the same results. I' ll try again later and let you know....

The intro movie is only 32 kb or so, the homepage is quite a bit bigger, but I have a preloader on that one.

All I got was a white page with copyright stuff and an obnoxious notice telling me what browser to use and how to set my resolution.

Pedro,

I couldn' t get through the first page (flash maybe?). All I got was text at the bottom of the screen " ©2002 Candlelight Cabinetry. All Rights reserved Best viewed with IE 5+, 1024x768 screen resolution"

I dont get it, it should prompt you to install flash player 6.0....its only 30 kb. Every computer Ive tried it on, its come up fine. Anyone have any ideas on why it might not be working?

Already have Flash on my machine. When page started to load I quickly got a glimpse of a picture placeholder (for your movie I guess) but then it just kinda stalled there

Couldn' t say for sure, I tried in IE, Opera and NS and in no instance did it work. Believe me I can see almost anything with what I' ve got set up (yes, I know I' ll pay someday). Of course...

If you pretend I' m grandma Moses, I' m not installing anything just because you ask nice.

Hi,

I got in OK but I was quite confused on what to do next. After a few clicks on the pictures I realized that I was not supposed to purchase or select items but view samples only, then I assume email or call?

I can confuse most folks with my layout www.fragrantlife.com but I am learning that layout and simplicity overides style.

OK,

Went to the home page, it works. What' s the point of making it a " flash' page" though? You set me up and it' s black and white text? Sorry, I don' t understand, there isn' t anything there you couldn' t do just straight up in FP, cleaner and easier? Yes I know making text move is cool but...?

That one tried to get me to download a plugin - no way am I going to download something I don' t need just to get in one site on the WWW. Ithink you need to rethink things a bit.

Gil,
The plug-in is from macromedia, and if you happen to visit sites that are published through flash mx for compression, plan on installing the plugin.

No thanks, with all the millions of sites on the WWW I' ll find what I' m looking for at a site that doesn' t " require" me to download something.

I' m kind of a closet Flash fan. I like to check it out, but I don' t like to use it on a site... plus I' m not really that good at it [&:]

I think you' ll find Gil to be pretty staunch in his position on Active X.

Actually Gil is one of my biggest helpers here... but he doesn' t have much appreciation for good flash. If you secret Flash-fans wanna check out some good sites, click these two.

One is a company that is just oozing with talent in Flash and other online magics. The other is a buddy of mine that' s a graphic designer turned Flash nut. Did you know that for some people it' s like a drug? Me either... before I met him.

Neither is too big to view in 56K (you' ll have to wait a few seconds... but not too much)... the second one changes randomly, depending on how Pete wants to play.

Gil... you won' t like these. [;)]

I agree with Gil on this. If I go to a site and have to download a plug-in I just go away. I am really particular what I download and when and even though I will probably download flash 6 I won' t do it just to view a site.

skasif11, I assume that this site is geared to consumers...since I couldn' t get in, I don' t know.....but if it is you need to make it simple and easy. The point being to get to all your possible customers.

I' m also a closet flash fan. Great sites Bobby.

Gil -

Can' t disagree with you. I have my Firewall set up to notify me and ask permission in the event of an Acive X... if I don' t completely trust the site, I disallow it. So far I' ve had no problems... but like you' ve said in previous posts, it can be a crap shoot.

I still think Flash has its place.

As a cabinetmaker for several years, I really liked the site. I concentrated on the framless style of cabinetry, which is what the Pebble Beach, CA crown seemed to prefer. I would have liked a site similar to yours back in the mid 90' s. 1990' s that is.
