Strange Problem When Editing Live - 7/13/2002 11:20:27
I have been Recently having a problem while Editing my Site Live, When Ever I go to save this one page (it only happens for this page sometimes other pages but mostly the same one)I get this message " The Server could not complete you request. contact your Internet Service Provider or web server administrator to make sure the Server has frontpage extensions installed. For More Specific information, Click Details." and when I click details it is blank. But When I hit OK it takes me to the Save As window now I Can save it as a different file name and it saves fine but when I try to save as the same file name I get the same message BUT even though it says it could not complete my request again I can just hit cancel exit out of front page, and open it up again and find the changes have been saved even though I got that message. I have Reinstalled Frontage (I am using Frontpage 2000) and it still doesn' t help, I renamed the file and it was working fine for a while but then started doing it again. More Recently it is happening when I change anything in the navigation view it says it can' t save the changes but it really does save them. Any ideas on what is going on??....Thanks for any help

hmmm does it always save, even though it gives you the error? some sort of a " false timeout" . maybe just a slow or busy server, the local Frontpage thinks it took too long for a save to complete and so it sends the error message, meanwhile the server is completing the save anyway...

" but I am on a broadband cable connection. " Now it sounds more like a corrupt temp file or some such. 1. I would clear out all files that are not actually used in the site and republish 2. you probably have already tried clearing out the temp internet files and re-calculate hyperlinks. 3. Might consider the status of your hard drive, defragged, plenty of free space??? sometimes when I work " live" on slow server, when I press " save" I can see a temp file being worked on in my status bar. Maybe your local Frontpage has a broken temp file or ????

Hi, I had this problem also. and things started to get worse from there. The answer is your server extensions are bad. Your host, not you, is at fault. The only way to fix them (according to my host .. which will soon NOT be by host) is to take down your site and they reinstall the extensions, then you can upload the site again. I am not at the point where my FP login won' t work... Good luck, Janet

have you tried the detect and repair function in frontpage under the help menu and have you contacted your isp to see if server extersions are currupt---> have you FTPed before instead of using the server extensions-- unless the server is set up to accept ftp and FP publishing FTP will crash server extensions on the server side. let me know..... PS. nice times in your hops.... and very few your isp must be close by.
