Hi, working on this site, need some opinions, keep in mind that its no yet complete http://www.bulls-hockey.com/home/ be nice, its my first post

swoosh -> RE: My Website (7/16/2002 23:51:36)

Hello dossipeni, Welcome to the Forums.

I like what you have thus far. Obviously you have thought out what your ideas are. The only problem I encountered (which could be the monitor I' m using at the moment) is that some of the white text and links are difficult to read on the red background.

We' ll see what others have to say

Gil -> RE: My Website (7/17/2002 0:04:58)

Are there any other pages? I didn' t see any links from the " home" page?

did you not see them at the top of the page? Roster, stats, and so on

the only link that does work is the schedule page

Charles W Davis -> RE: My Website (7/17/2002 1:02:39)

Geoff,

I have to second the hard to read text. A lot of designers feel that little bitty, itsy bitsy text is " good design." I believe that I have one of the best monitors on the market and it is difficult to see your text. Certainly, I can set my browser to display larger text, but why should I? It also distorted the proportion of the page when I did so.

You seemed surprised that Gil didn' t see the links. Following your comment, I went back an looked again. The first time, I only saw the ones that were white text on the red background that started with " arena :: staff..." The black text on read inside the white border is extremely difficult to see. Once one passes the pointer over the links the mouse over brings out the white and finally its legible and one realizes they are links.

I look forward to your finished product.

Gil -> RE: My Website (7/17/2002 7:42:20)

Ahh, there is " something" black {is it text?} in the red area up top! OK, running the mouse over makes it white - still too small to read, but at least it' s noticeable.

You' ve got a really nice start - make the text readable and you' ll have a nice site!

piquet -> RE: My Website (7/17/2002 11:47:44)

A nice design but I agree in part about the navigation. It is a good enough menu but I think the default color should be white with, maybe light gray for the hover. Also, all the links I tried took me to a 404 Error page on your host´s server.

dossipeni -> RE: RE: My Website (7/17/2002 15:13:58)

I reversed the menu images so you see the white first, and the mouse over shows the black, look any better?

piquet -> RE: My Website (7/18/2002 13:12:21)

Sure does! But I would still go with something like light gray for the hover so that it is still visible. Back on red doesn´t really work.

Charles W Davis -> RE: My Website (7/18/2002 21:30:36)

Geoff,

When returning to your site to look at the white links turn black, I noticed that when I hover I can' t read the text that comes under to describe the contents of the page should I choose to click on it.

I know it would be a bit of work, but I suggest the contents appear above the links. On your home page, the Welcome message would then be read prior to the links. Makes it easier on the visitor is made to feel welcome before a decision must be reached to move on through the site.

Black? Try silver.

I really don' t understand what you mean by this

swoosh -> RE: My Website (7/19/2002 3:15:43)

I believe Charles is suggesting the following:

Your site is like so now:
____________________________________________
HOME|ROSTER|SCHEDULE|STATS|STANDINGS|SPONSORS
Welcome to the online home of the Bradford Bulls
____________________________________________

Charles is reccomending this:
____________________________________________
Welcome to the online home of the Bradford Bulls
HOME|ROSTER|SCHEDULE|STATS|STANDINGS|SPONSORS
____________________________________________

I agree with it as well, because when I hover over some of the links, the mouse cursor is covering some of the content text of what the link provides

dossipeni -> RE: RE: My Website (7/20/2002 15:32:56)

Oh, I get it now, thats a good idea now that I relize it. Thanks for the suggestions and I hope to have the updated design later today, keep up the great suggestions

tterrifc -> RE: My Website (7/20/2002 17:07:13)

Good, clever layout. I would like to see it when it' s finished.

dossipeni -> RE: My Website (7/21/2002 17:11:20)

I just updated the site, what I did was I put each mouse over button in a different color, just to see what one looks best, so you guy shelp me out and let me know what color looks the best

Charles W Davis -> RE: My Website (7/23/2002 12:50:20)

Geoff,

You requested comments regarding color. The red color causes much the same reaction in me as red clothing for the bull.

However, if the red is the team' s color, or due to patriotism, don' t change it! Your team' s members won' t object.

The sight reacts identically on IE 6, NN 6.2 and Opera 6. However, the neat little calendar doesn' t render in NN 4.76.

Janky_jankster -> RE: RE: My Website (7/23/2002 16:26:08)

If your asking what I think your asking, which is what navigation mouse over looks the best, then I think its the one for the " HOME" link, the grey looks good, just wait to hear what other people have to say

tterrifc -> RE: My Website (7/23/2002 17:14:04)

The light grey on the mouseovers for me.

dossipeni -> RE: My Website (7/25/2002 23:32:49)

website is totatly complete, check it out. let me know how it looks

swoosh -> RE: My Website (7/25/2002 23:43:05)

Layout of the site is great! I like it alot. I just think there is too much variations of the color red. I understand that your going with team colors, but I think if you used some more black it would make the red stand out even more and not be so blinding. Excellent layout, I just think you need some black to dim all of the red and white.

For example, on the intro page there was more black involved with the logo and shadow of the team name, I thought that looked very nice.

Just My Opinion, that' s all

tterrifc -> RE: My Website (7/26/2002 13:09:23)

Swoosh has a very valid point. All the red is too hard to focus on. I know it' s a little late to say this, but could the whole thing be a little bigger, text, graphics and all. You really have to look hard to see all of it. It is so concentrated. This is just a personal opinion. I think your site is going to be fabulous for the market you are targeting.

UCSBeatle -> RE: My Website (8/2/2002 15:56:06)

I don' t have a problem with the colors of the site. I can understand that there would be some people having trouble with the color scheme but i think the site is great. Keep up the good work.

Matty -> RE: My Website (8/2/2002 16:07:06)

I like the site ... looks great. For the record, I " stole" your schedule idea to use on my hockey team' s site (link bellow).

The only thing I don' t like is how you use the marquee to tell the user what page he is on. Ex: " Bradford Bulls Main Page" . I would keep that static. I would also distinguish a link from a text more. Ex: " For information on becoming a sponsor, contact jdossey@rogers.com" ... you can' t tell the difference between the text and the link ... it all looks the same. Maybe you could bold the links or something ... who knows.

JemperLynn -> RE: My Website (8/7/2002 15:04:28)

I like your layout a lot. It is very clean and readable. I do agree with what the others said about the color though. Try making some of the cell backgrounds a different color like gray. I like the red, there is just too much for me. I really like every thing else though. Looks good. Keep going!

Jemper
