Hmm - I get a blank white page with a - in the top left corner?

Hi Tony,
I looked at your site with IE 6.0 and resolution at 800 X 600. I saw the same thing as Gil, a white page with a dash in the upper-left corner.

John

Hi Tony -

I was able to acccess your site by removing the last punctuation after za....I looked at the site in IE6 and NN4 on a T1.

The site looks nice in IE6, well laid out and organized.

On page - http://www.iopsa.org.za/IOPSA_newsletter.htm there was a broken image link for Manne.gif
When I tried to access the plumber registration file with the NOW link It returned -
http://oemcomputer/NewIOPSA/IOPSA_Plumber_Registration.htm a bad link.
Also the arrow at the bottom of IOPSA_home_page to items for sale is a bad link.
NN4 had some major problems with the site, no load at all on the home page, and subsequent pages would load then disappear. I am hoping someone else can confirm this.

Also the pages seemed to take a while to load, since I am on a large pipe, I am assuming it is a bad hop between me and the servers. Since size reports show what should be a quick load time.

Hope it helps, keep up the good work

Hi

Sorry about that - the address is www.iopsa.org.za i.e. without a period after za!

Hi Stealth,

Thanks for your input - it is invaluable! One tries to check and test everything but links get resolved locally so everything seems to work for me!!

Anyway, I have fixed up the problems that you noted but am worried about NN4 - It should work apart from the DHTML msg re Managing Standards. I do use Java for the mouseovers (Mighty Mouseover code) but thought that would work also?

One wonders about NN - I have used Site Meter here and it tells me that only 1% of visitors are from NN - maybe because it doesnt load!!??)

I dont get excessive load times this end, but the server is in country (South Africa) and that will add to international visitors' response? (I am using a 56k link on dial up.)

Thanks and Regards

Tony Randell

Tony,

Also spent 23 years with IBM. Didn' t touch a PC until 5 years after an early retirement.

I noticed the SiteMeter logo on the home page and decided to take a look at it. The link took me to a signup page rather than the statistics. Is that the intent of the particular SiteMeter that you have used. I have always used the one that makes the stats available to anyone that is curious. Habit, I guess. Most of my early sites were for Chambers of Commerce and the members were always interested in being able to see the data.

I would change the name of the home page from " IOPSA_Home_page.htm"
to " default.htm" or " index.htm"

I reviewed your site in IE 6, NN 6.2.3, NN 4.76 and Opera 6. All went well except for NN 4.76 where the page didn' t load past the page header. I restarted the browser and had the same results.

Interesting! Your sponsor' s logos appear on most pages, the some guy by the name of Tony Randall gets a lot of attentions in that right border.

Why have the first page (the index page) with no information or content and force your visitors to click just to enter where they should be to start with? A growing number of search engines do not read meta tags and will look for " content" to index - having no content on the index page will not help.

I also noticed no ALT attributes on any of your images.

Hi All.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

I have implemented a new default page as suggested and have also put in alt text for images.

Am still concerned about NN 4.76 not working and will look into it.

Regards

Tony R
