Mark Holler -> ASP-Ready Web Server for Windows 2000? Help! (2/26/2001 20:30:00)

I was recently upgraded to a new PC with Windows 2000. Before the upgrade, I was developing a FrontPage 2000 application under Windows NT 4.0. I was using the Personal Web Server for ASP processing, and all of the functionality worked fined. But I've discovered that Windows 2000 doesn't support PWS. I did extensive research on the Microsoft web site, and the only documentation I could find that was relevant told me that I needed to install IIS 5.0 to configure a personal web server. I did that but I haven't been able to start the Default Web Site using Internet Information Services. Does any one know where I can find a how-to for creating an ASP-ready web server on my work station?

When you say "havent been able to start" what do you mean?

Normally its running by default.

In the MMC, right click on the service and you should have a "start" option

Let me know what happens else Ill step you through it.

Ive just recently gone to W2k myself and had no problems.

W2k Proffesional? Administrator account?

I'm sorry. I'll try to be more specific. In the Administrative Tools folder, I double-click on the Internet Services Manager. I right-click on the Default Web Site (Stopped) and then click on the Start option. After a brief pause, I get an error box that says: "The system did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion". I have no clue on how to resolve this.

What happens when you start the "Personal Web manager" first?

To be honest, I'm not sure how the Personal Web Manager works. When I open it, the Main screen reads: "Web publishing is on. Your home page is not available because Default Document is off". My home directly is shown as: c:\inetpub\wwwroot
