Are you wanting a simple form, complex interactive form or what? Simple data collecting forms are really quite easy.

Click on Insert>>Form>>Form This will give you the area of where your form fields will be contained. It will come with " submit" and " reset" buttons as well. Now position your cursor at the beginning of the top line inside of the dashed form container and hit the enter key once to get a new line that separates from the buttons Now you can begin inserting the fields that you require. Click on Insert>>Form>>Option button. This will give you a radio button and you can type the lable you want next to it. Do the same with the rest of the radio buttons that you wish to have To insert the text boxes, click on Insert>>Form>>One Line Text Box. then the appropriate lables to go with them. When finished right click your mouse inside of the form and choose form properties. You will see the option for Where to send/store your information. type in the email address in the window for email. I' m sure you will get the jest of it when you begin inserting the form fields. Hope this helps

Swooh, that didn' t work, when I goto form properties like you said, and insert my e-mail like you said, some lengthy message pops up saying quote:
This form is being created on a Disk-Based web or the fronpage server extensions have not been configured to send e-mail. Please direct your system administator or your ISP to the instruction in " setting up e-mail options on windows" or " stetting up e-mail options on unix" in the server extensions resource kit. if youdo not have the server extensions resource kit you can find it at http://www,microsoft.com/frontpage/wwp/serk. would you like to remove the e-mail recipiant. YES NO thats it, I tryed both yes and no, niether work, any more advice???

That message is normal to receive when your working on a disk based web from your local machine, it' s not detecting the server extensions which you don' t have. Click NO to not remove the email recipient. This way when you publish to your server which has the server extensions everything will work fine.

Did you publish your form with FP? You can try and fix it by opening the page live on the server and re-setting the form properties.

If I may be so bold, why would you not " Publish" with FP? If you use FTP you' ll break the extensions and the form (and any other components used) won' t work.

I don' t publish using FP for 2 reasons; 1. I did it once before and it screwed everything up, and; 2. I don' t 100% understand what to do, and i am not about to waste time reading tutorials

I too have caused a major malfunction with " Publish" but it was my own fault, I have generally been successful with it. It' s actually quite easy to do. Simply go to " File" and select " Publish Web" and point it to your URL. You can publish only the changed pages (which I believe will be all of them if you haven' t published before) or you can publish the whole site. There certainly isn' t any reason to run through a gamut of tutorials. Just looking at another post and it occurred to me there is another possible solution. Try building the form live on the site rather than uploading it. This of course assumes that the extensions are working properly.

I do suggest trying again though, without the advantages of " published" features *like forms* there really is no reason to use Frontpage? 2. I fail to understand how reading a tutorial or book, that can help to understand how to eliminate the problems you are experiencing now can be a " waste of time" ?

I have several forms on several sites and I ' publish' using FrontPage and I also FTP. No problem. So you can do either one - just don' t delete anything! FP has several folders and files it uses to have the FP extensions. Which brings me to forms.... The forms I create are from scripts. I never use the FP insert feature. I first used a script that was on my control panel of the server. I had to change the script when the server changed software. The server has FP extensions so I could have used the FP form. Initially I preferred to use FTP, thus the script. This is the form I used and you just modify it. However, REMEMBER, the form is dependent upon the server software. The first line is dependent upon the server software. the second line is where the form is sent via email, 2nd line - subject line of the form; 3rd line after clicking submit, this page kindof tells people they were successful; and the last line is all the fields that I require in my form. AFter the 5 lines I added an example of a text field that is required by my form - notice the " name" is the same as in my required field in the first part of the form. The second example is radio buttons. Notice they are named the same - this way they can only click yes or no - not both. Finish off the form with a submit button and close the form with the form tag. At the bottom of this email is my ' old' way of the form action - notice the difference in the line. This is why it is dependent upon the server. An alternative is to ditch all this and use FP to create the form and publish so that all the files and hidden instructions are there. ~ Terry <FORM ACTION = " ../cgi-sys/FormMail.cgi" METHOD = " POST" > <input type=hidden name=" recipient" value=" email@domain.net " > <input type=hidden name=" subject" value=" Registration" > <input type=hidden name=" redirect" value=" http://thankyou.htm" > <input type=hidden name=" required" value=" email,name,email_address" > <INPUT NAME=" name" SIZE=" 52" MAXLENGTH=" 20" > <INPUT type=" radio" name=" newslist_member" value=" yes" > Yes <INPUT type=" radio" name=" newslist_member" value=" no" >No</font></td> <input type=" submit" name=" submit" value=" Submit" > <input type=" reset" value=" Reset" > </form> OLD script: <form method=" POST" name=" email-address" ACTION=" /cgi-sys/formmail.pl" >

mc6pack6 I really don' t know what your talking about, what do I modify? this line quote:
<FORM ACTION = " ../cgi-sys/FormMail.cgi" METHOD = " POST" > if so what the heck does the " ../cgi-sys/FormMail.cgi" mean? You must know that I have no idea how to make a form, at all, and I am still without a form

dossipeni The time that has been spent by yourself and the others on this site would more than paid for a book Official Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Book, by W. Brett Polonsky, Microsoft Press, 1999. Forms are discussed in easy to understand language from page 284 through 319. This much information cannot be placed on this forum. How many times have you heard the following statement? " When all else fails-read the instructions."

Hi dossipeni, Having been here for awhile, and also not being a website designer, I must tell you that a truly impressive number of those folks with extensive experience/knowledge have responded to you. So too has a new member who took the time to type possible code to help. This is a great community. Folks go out of their way to help, but it is not " Website Development 101" . Its important that you bring something to the table, namely your efforts to research and read about your problem and then ask: " Okay, here' s what I' ve done - any suggestions?' If the folks here started charging tuition, I could not afford to be a member. May I suggest that you work with the above comments and do some research/reading? The folks here will go out of their way to help, but they too have a living to make. John
