storefront questons - 3/1/2001 15:11:00
Im afraid my database knowledge is limited at best. I have a friend that would like to set up a web store, probably using a program like storefront 5.0, but does not want to purchase a lot of expensive hardware or dial up equipment. Is it possible, or advisable, to build a database on a standard cpu (dedicated and online) rather than a web-server, and then connect using standard dial up, DSL, or cable rather than a high cost line like a T-1? Thanks

I think you'll find it a lot cheaper and easier to use a hosting company that is competent with SF5. I haven't upgraded to SF5 but I have a couple of clients running earlier versions of storefront at http://www.ntwebhosting.com I think you'll see it's not expensive. I would also have a lot of confidence in Datapipe.com for Storefront hosting, it's a little more expensive at datapipe but the server speed seems a little quicker to me. No matter what you do, don't try setting up at a hosting company that doesn't have experience with Storefront.
