Does It Sell/Invite/Motivate/Etc.? - 8/1/2002 19:09:32
I am getting visitors...but not as many clients as I would like. Any obvious problems? Please test my forms and registrations by Registering as " OUTFRONT" so I will know you are testing. Does it all Flow? Most of my traffic is coming from search engines, so they know what they are looking for. Tell me why it' s not totally captivating the people who are searching for this very thing. www.axis-one.com Thanks Guys, Brad

Brad, I think the site is set up nicely. Although your not getting clients despite the visitors that your getting, maybe a customer testimonial page would help. Just a thought.

Hi Brad, I initially loaded your site from a " viewer' s" point of view and looked for errors (you may want to check the size of your graphics on the home page). I read through your site however, and my thoughts were more towards the point that perhaps the market you' re looking for would not turn towards the Internet for help. A male speaking here, but a woman going through what you' re targeting as an audience would, in my mind, go to friends, family, religious organizations, etc. Just a personal viewpoint. I don' t think its a designing problem. I feel its a philosophical and emotional one. Again - just a personal point of view. John

It' s a very nice looking site, very clean. Looks like the nav bar is set to left and the rest of the site is set to center though. Nothing jumped out at me to tell me what the site is about. Maybe you need a question in larger text, the answer to which would indicate to the visitor that they came to the perfect place to get answers to their problems.

Nice site ! I did get confused over all the menus though and was a bit lost about what I was looking for. ( Not having a particular need ) Like most things in this field, people may be looking for anonimity and do not want to login (until the last minute) I did like the self check and now realise things are not as bad as I thought. So thankyou. I think what you should be looking for in your logs is return visitors numbers. Cheers

Brad, The concept of online counseling might be just unique and compelling enough for people to come take a look, but I can see people' s hesitation in actually signing up for the service. I just took a quick run through your site, and maybe I simply missed what I was looking for, but didn' t see anywhere that listed who your counselors are or what their credentials are. If I' m seeking counseling, I want to know for sure that I' m dealing with someone who' s getting paid more than minimum wage and has more than a high school education. I want to see a diploma hanging on the wall in a cheesy K-Mart frame and I want to see LOTS of letters after someone' s name. Maybe you do have this info somewhere and I just couldn' t find it. The site is visually appealing, but perhaps there' s more you could do to garner the confidence of potential client' s regarding the services you provide. I' m not sure that " satisfaction-guaranteed-or-your-money-back" is good enough when people' s emotions and mental health are involved. I hope I' m not being too harsh. I mean all this in a NICE way. (Why the heck won' t my smiley face show up)

I agree with everyone else, but I think that adding small testimonials to the front page would go a long way to invite others to try out your services. One other thing I noticed that could make a difference with how search engines view your keywords for placement is the overuse of the word " online" before many of your keywords. Online isn' t necessary at all. That' s a given. repetition of one word over and over again will get you ignored. What you are giving to your customers is the same as any therapist not online. Your customers know they are online and so do the SEs. I hope this helps. You have a beautiful site and EWD is right, the alignment is off. Some to the left and some centered.

Thanks guys! This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for. Keep it coming! When I read your suggestions, I was like, " Duh!!!" . It' s good to have such talented people give free feedback. I suppose we all have " blind spots" and now I know some things I need to add or change. Keep it coming...good or bad. Brad

I find the design of your website outstanding. I agree with suggestions posted here, particularly those which will give your site more credibility (testimonials, more about professionals including credentials). I have a suggestion but must qualify by saying that it is the opinion of only one person. The area I' ll touch on is subjective, maybe even controversial, though there has been a lot of research on it: the psychological impact of color. imho the colors on your site, while I like them, are drab from the perspective of someone coming there seeking help for depression and other types of mental health counseling. I' d like to see some color warmth which " says" " we' re here to help and support you." I realize that even if one agreed, a great amount of time would need to be expended to alter colors after all the work you' ve done. But you could introduce another color in some integrated and complementary fashion say, for example, by changing link +/or some title colors. You could pick up one of the greens on the book cover of " Breaking Free" on the home page. Green is believed to convey Health and Healing, Regeneration, Contentment, Harmony, Friendliness. Some feel it represents Life and Rebirth; and that it provides a calm natural feeling. I' m not necessarily recommending green but used it to illustrate the psychological associations of a particular color. As I said, this is only one opinion but wanted to share it with you nevertheless. Best of everything with your endeavor. gail A few randomly selected references: http://coe.sdsu.edu/eet/Articles/colormood/start.htm http://www.colormatters.com/entercolormatters.html http://www.wkac.ac.uk/designproject/produce/colour/psychology.htm

Did you every consider offering some type of free session? I did personal and business performance coaching for a while. At the time, coaches offered an one hour free coaching session to new clients (the coaching was primarily done by phone, btw). If the person didn' t like it, there was no obligation. At the time, coaching was not well-known among the general public (except within large corporations) so the free hour encouraged people to give it a try. Two of my first clients were those that typically are reluctant to publically walk into the door of any office even remotely perceived as counseling: a minister and an elected official. You may want to consider some targeted marketing stategies directly to those you feel may be most open to trying your services. gail
