FTP software - 8/1/2002 21:02:26
At the risk of sounding like a commercial: I don' t use FTP that much. In fact, I' ve only had two occasions to use it, but now I' ve got a public library for a client and I have to publish to a site that doesn' t have FP server extensions yet. After trying several different FTP programs I have to give CuteFTP a big thumbs up. I know I saw abbeyvet or kathleen or somebody say that they used it, but I just had to try a few before I decided. To anyone out there who wants the really easy way to transfer files, this is it in my book.

I use Terrapin and it works well for me! I think you like what you get used to.

From home I still use WS_FTP95.LE, gets the job done. At work I have Reflections, and the FTP client in it is pretty SWEET! Hey, Caywind, you' re cruising into the land of 1,000 posts... Good thing they limited contest entries to one per member, or the whole gang would be batting 1,000!

I use WS_FTP Pro and it' s pretty robust, well worth the license fee. The free LE version is fine but the license does not allow commercial use of it, only personal or educational use.

Hmmm, Tried Cute FTP - didn' t care for it. WS_FTP is really pretty cool. But, the command prompt is so simple, really why use anything else?

Someone from here turned me on to WS_FTP last year as a way to upload single pages to a site while on the road. (I need to post timely " rainout" info for a soccer site). Works great. I keep a copy of WS_FTP on my office computer along with a template rainout page. Then simply put in the info, upload and voila. -Steve

Don' t forget that you can use FrontPage to FTP as well. Click publish and change the http://to ftp:// - server extensions not required for that.

WOW...I did NOT know that. Too bad my realtor friend didnt' know that either; it would have saved him some money...his server guy told him he needed to buy FTP because they didn' t have the FP Extensions installed. OOPS...! I' m glad you posted this, because I was about to buy an FTP program to have in case anyone I make webs up for doesn' t have the extentions.
