I'd like to get to grip with using Access as part of a FrontPage solution, however, I have no experience of it to date. Specifically I want to enable users to search records based on a list or c. 7 attributes and have the results displayed in a table. Each result would be linked to the full record. Sounds reasonable to me, however, where do I start with Access!?! Can anyone recommend a book to me to help me get to grips with Access please? Thanks, Richard http://boathouse.freeyellow.com

Well if you have experience with any type of DB at all, I would say just dig in. You will figure it out. If not,I taught myself using the Keystone series of video tapes. They were available at my job at the time. Check the public library the have all sorts of instructional videos. I have also had good luck with the dummies books too. Any of these should give you more than enough info to do what you want to do. EE

Oh! There's always getting a copy of a DB that someone else has already set up and just picking it apart to see how it works. Same principal that we used when we were kids with new toys, only now your parents will probably be proud instead of seething mad.lol :-) EE

Richard, I am in the same boat you are in...lol. I am trying to grasp the whole web page/DB thing for the first time myself. Besides finding tons of wonderful information on this site (information that mostly helps me see my mistakes <laugh> ) I bought a book last night called "Teach Yourself Access 2000 Visually" (it has pictures) and I am also looking into an online course for Access 2000 at Learn2.com. I thought I was all set to go, now I realize that I may not be able to use Access unless I switch web hosts....just another stumble in the DB road to success. Cindy

Cindy - thanks! I saw the very same book earlier today, but opted instead for one called 'The Complete Reference Access 2000'. I've used one of their's before hence the layout seems familiar. Do you know, if an ISP offer FP entensions, will they by default include any extensions necessary for databases? Or is it not that simple?!? Richard

Hi Richard, obviously youll want to start with my web site www.outfront/spooky/ Remember that books on Access and using databases on the web are 2 different topics, usually the access books wont cover any of web based stuff. Youll need to be on a NT host (not unix) if you want to start testing access databases. The frontpage extensions are useful for doing the "save to database form properties" little else. So I realised when looking throught the various books! Still, as I've never used Access before the book will prove useful ....maybe even interesting...scary thought. Aside from your site (which I have looked at by the way and is indeed useful), is there any one book which you'd recommend to get to grips with databases on the Web?
