Are there differences (pros/con) between using either of these which result in the same effect:

A Rollover (using javascript) vs. FrontPage' s Dynamic " Swap picture" Effect?

JavaScript is more customizable and you learn to know what is going on. If you think you might want to do more dynamic content type stuff learning how to do the scripting now means you won' t have as much to learn later.

Image Swapping requires less of you. if(Ignorance==Bliss) go for the built in feature.

Not quite sure you understand my question. I' ve not asked if something requires more or less of someone, or if I should simply click a few buttons versus doing an in-depth study of javascript.

I would like to know if there are differences between a javascript rollover and the dynamic effect. For example, do they both work well in most browsers? Should dynamic effects be used at all?

I don' t question the usefulness of javascript, but I don' t know much about the use of FP dynamic effects.

If I' m not mistaken, FrontPage just uses JScript to accomplish this. (Might be VBScript, but I think it' s JScript). As far as browser compatibility, I believe the dynamic effect works anywhere JScript does.
