_gail -> Test rollovers in IE, please (8/6/2002 12:25:23)

Need a bit more help here. Do both rollovers work?

I can not test in IE because I have not been able to get it to work with Javascript despite trying to fix the problem for months. [>:] I can not open the pop-up windows in IE.

Please click on the " View Large Image" link for the first two pix:

12cat1 (a javascript rollover)

18cat1 (a FrontPage' s Dynamic " Swap picture" Effect)

Since I plan to do make rollovers for 197 photos, I was wondering if the Swap Picture Dynamic Effect is just as good as Javascript. It is so easy to apply compared to tweaking the code of hundreds of pages. Using it would also save my client money since they' ll pay by the hour.

thanks, gail

They both work in IE 5 and 5.5 as well as NN 4+ but oddly 12Cat1 didn' t work in Opera 5.12 while 18Cat1 did. I' ll check with NN 6 and Opera 6 when I get home. Looking good.[;)]

Looks good in IE 6 too. Very nice.

Yup, IE 6 and NN 6 but 12Cat1 doesn' t work in either Opera 5.12 or 6. Hey maybe MS has something that works OK in most browsers.[:p][8D]

Hi Gail,
Looked at your site with XP, IE 6.0 and connection at 28.8 on 56K.

Due to my slow connection speed, I normally open a link in a new window to save reloading of the prior page. Normally I do this through <SHIFT><Click Link>, but I sometimes use <Right Click> " Open in new window" . Trying both approaches, I hit: " A runtime error has occurred. Line 0 (zero) Object Expected" . Clicking " No" to the debug response results in a 404 page not found error.

I' ve found this to be a common problem with XP and IE 6.0 when someone has a link to a javascript pop-up and I try to open a new window,

Also, have you considered making the image a link as well as the link listed below it? My first response was to click the image.

John

John, thanks for checking! Did the pix pages take long to load for you?

I understand the problem with the javascript error. I can' t even test the site with my own ill-functioning IE browser, though all is well when I test with AOL (which is IE).

I tried the image link, an idea I like, however it does not result in a specificially sized window when it opens which my clients wants. However, are you offering this as an alternative for those who do not use, or have a problem using javascript?

Again, thanks, gail

As an aside, there is an interesting discussion about the overall use of javascript in a site here:

http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/tm.asp?m=77345&p=2&tmode=1

It was pointed out that those using JavaScript navigation should also provide text alternative though, if I understand correctly, I' m not quite sure that it is a viable solution for javascript problems which may be encountered with some browsers at this particular site.
