jbuss -> Which comes first; Host or FP? (3/11/2001 19:26:00)
I am beginning my new web site. Its all on paper now, flow charts and all. I haven't selected a host for my site yet. What comes first? Do I chose a host and then build my web site on FP or do I build the web page and then find a suitable host?
Thanks!

Either way really, you can get a good development tool in PWS (Personal web server) which will replicate server functionality, and when you have found your host, merely publish the web from your PC to the host server.
PWS can be found on the Win98 Cd > addons/pws or through the IIS5 add on for W2k

Talk to people and listen to their answers. 1. Will you be using asp? php? 2. How about MySQL or MSSQL? 3. NT or UNIX server?
These anwers will help determine which host/program to use.
Once you make your decision, there really isn't an easy way to turn back.

Holy cow, I don't even know what asp, php, MySQL and MSSQL are! Thankfully I am familiar with Unix and Windows NT. I've developed my site so far without any database stuff, just the layout, flow and graphics. Any ideas on where to start on implimenting the database forms, access stuff, etc.?

Howards right, if you are looking at databases then the decision is already made before you start coding. If you are familiar with MS and use access/SQL7 then you will have to have an NT server as a host
