old man -> RE: BusinessDirectory.com et al - proof of concept (8/12/2002 10:54:51)

Jeff, I have some interest in directories, let me make a few points. If each and every domain represents an entry point to a user and if I' ve clicked onto --Business Directory.com-- searching for some ' morsel' of business info....then, all these other domains are extraneous, distracting and should not be there. If you insist on trying to ' lure' me to some other site, then at most it should be some minor clickable phrase at the bottom of the page. Sort of a - check out this other ' delicious' site-. I can' t imagine it taking up more space than that empty blue square. A bigger issue is how to avoid the ' empty plate' syndrome. I see it all across the web...directories with no content. No business is willing to pay to be listed in a directory that hasn' t enough content to attract users. How are you dealing with this problem? A site of this scope require a ' substantial back-end' , database driven.....not just a demo site. You' ll need scalable functionality -before- the first business is listed. Are you there yet? An October launch date is ambitious.
