County Map Layout Suggestions - 8/22/2002 15:07:38
PROJECT: Create (4) 800x600 pages. One page will be a Tri-County Map. The other 3, individual County Maps. On each Map are little corporate icons representing different areas where Apartment Communities are located.
Text on County Page' s will be:: City' s and Apartment names they offer in those cities and serve as links to PDF brochures of each property.

What is a good way to layout a map on a page?
[:' (] As you can see below, the Tri-County map seems to just float there, the colors seem off with the companies color used for the background. Eckkkk, this preliminary layout is dreadfull.. suggestions for color, font, &
embellishments are appreciated!!!

:)

nothing else barry:: just a background color change?

Here' s some changes I made. Beveled the map..changed the green to something lighter and modified the county buttons...still not happy.
I guess it' s just me that thinks something is still missing?

Ophellia,
I just got to look at your map, and being a " guy" with no color sense, asked my wife. Sounds like you need to keep the green because it is the company' s color. If so, she says to try a pinkish color - I don' t know the name of it - like coral but subdued. I know, remember when crayons had a " flesh" color and it was kind of pink? Use that instead of the purple you have now. Or maybe just different shades of green like the bottom third of your map. Am I making sense, or am I just channelling a bad fashion designer?
I do like the bevel. I think you should keep it.

Probably too late now but how about adding the surrounding states/county' s in a lighter color and feather them into the green background ?

It seems to be so dark... If you have to keep the green, can you change the other colors to real light tan, light blue, light pink? I wonder how that would look. It jsut seems ...I don' t know... muddy..??:):)

:)All suggestions good. Going to try em' all out.

If I add the surrounding cities I' d have to get a new graphic of a map that includes those and cut out what I need from it to try to piece it with this one...my original was just the tri-county + alot more water area on the right [:p]

Will throw up a shot when I finish...THANKS ya' all!

Ophellia,

Do you have to keep the green background? My feeling is that is what is " sucking up" the light and giving me the " muddy effect.

The white would look great with the beveled.

Okay I redid it in 3 different lighter colors. (one just a lighter shade of green) Will have to post 3x' s to show all 3 so prepare to scroll.

I don' t think they are too stuck on the green and if it looks better w/a different color I will push to avoid the drk green.

The white sample is not a pure #ffffff white.

Now all the text will have to be redone. The tan text is now to light and the green cutout effect doesnt work w/out green background.

Ahhhk more work! lol:)

Okay, here are my thoughts :). Of all the different layouts you have, I like the original beveled one the best. Only because the body of water stands out in color.

The latest ones you just put up seems to have the same color variations of the water and Macomb/Oakland counties.

oh boy...you each liked one of them...and one even liked the original beveled version....SWOOSH are you thinking I should put the original map color with the bevel onto one of the lighter backgrounds in the 3 newest ones?

Final question: text colors in #1 and #2 of the 3 reworked versions: any color suggestions??

THANKS ALL.....I do so love input! :)

Hi O,

On looking at the 3 again I do like the first revised rendition.

In my sight, font colors are like kitchen curtains, I just let my wife pic or I stay with black.

Sorry no help there:)

Hi Ophelia,

I like the first (beveled) map you have but think it would look better on your " almost white" background.

Hi All

saw this map today & liked the " feel" of it.

Maybe others in the USA may like it also.
