xterradane -> Autonumber Reset (8/23/2002 13:08:25)

I know I have seen this on here about two years ago, but can' t find it now. I am wanting to send someone a database that I created. They don' t need the data just the format, so I wanted to delete all records. However, there are two autonumber fields that it would be nice if it could start at zero/one instead of the number where I left off.

I tried the Append Table to reset it, but that didn' t work like I thought it would. Any pointers?

Thanks,
Gail

I had this problem too a long time ago. From what I know about MS-Access, they do not let you change the Autonumber value. I searched an MS-Access book and on-line help till I was blue in the face. I found some help that stated you cannot change the autonumber field. That' s all. If there is a way to do this, I' m all ears too.

I think if you delete all the records in the tables and then compact the database the autonumber fields should be reset.

If you need to reset only one table (empty) you can copy the structure to a new table, delete the old table and rename the new to the old. This also resets the autonumber for the table back to 0.
