I' m having a problem, and to make matters worse, the output seems to be randomized so I am having a hard time pinpointing the cause.

I have an ASP page that opens up a database connection and retrieves a recordset and sends information about that recordset in a CDONTS e-mail. Said e-mail is HTML formatted and has different color schemes.

When I test the e-mail, sometimes there are unexplained output problems. I' ve never gotten the e-mail to look bug-free, it' s always got something wrong. Sometimes it outputs part of the asp code, sometimes a font bleeds where it shouldn' t, sometimes a line break doesn' t insert itself.

I' ve had about 3-4 different bug ' states' , and it seems to change based on time. The code itself is all uniform. I' m thinking it has to do with the html of the CDONTS... I' m having the problem on 3 clients all using Outlook.

I am new to ASP scripting, and this was my first major undertaking, so maybe I am missing something fundamental. Also of note, if I try to close the objConn and objRS conventionally, I get an error. I think there is a special syntax for doing it in Frontpage...either that or maybe it automatically does it, but I don' t know.

The output of the e-mail should look something like this: 
An APXOnline Inquiry has been forwarded to you by Petey Pablo at APX Technologies, Inc. The following notes have been included by the sender:

Hi, these are notes. Aren' t they cool? I think they are. You should too, because they are. You can put special instructions here for the distributor or representative that you are e-mailing and he or she will read this in addition to the inquiry you are sending them. Doesn' t that sound like fun? I think so.

I cant see anything immediately obvious, but perhaps its the way the client renders the html?

I would modify the html, so that the nesting is correct.
Instead of :

<B><Font Color=DarkBlue>Output Connector Type:</Font> <Font Color=CornflowerBlue></B>

Use :
<B><Font Color=DarkBlue>Output Connector Type:</Font></B> <Font Color=CornflowerBlue>

I glanced over you code and didn' t see anything obvious.
Just curious if your user might be entereing text that includes any keywords, ' <' or ' /' characters that might be thowing the html off?

I' m filling out the form myself for testing purposes and am not using any special characters.

Am trying what Spooky said now... I actually added in the </Fonts> to fix one problem, and another one came up, I am recalling, so I think it' s my HTML syntax... hopefully this will squelch it.

I' ll post an update in a few minutes, since this is going to take some extensive typing. :P

-- This sounds dumb I know, but does anyone know why when I view my post in my IE6 browser at home, it doesn' t line break at the edge of my screen, so my sentences become one big horizontal scroll. When I preview, it shows correctly, but when I post it' s different. Does everyone see it like that or is it my browser, and if so, I can' t find what kind of browser setting would cause that...

The only other thing I noticed was a ' v' following the value submitted for the Width field. This may be intended, I dunno.

It may be unrelated, but what does your SQL string look like?
I see a reserved word in there " NAME" and quite a few spaces in field names.
This may effect the output to the code, but I still think its the web display.

If you write the output to a web page, do the same errors occur and do the fields that fail contain any special characters? quotes etc?

Not sure what you mean about Name... Name is one of the column' s in my database. My SQL looks like this:

strSQL = " SELECT * FROM External WHERE ID = " & ID

I just wanted to bring in one recordset that matches ID, which is passed in from the previous page as a session variable.

Just another note... I' ve tried removing the lines of the code that produce incorrect output, but that just causes other lines to go haywire. So once again, I' m thinking its an obscure html processing error, but I don' t think it' s client-side, cause I' ve tried this on a number of email clients both in the office and at home...

For whatever it' s worth, here' s another screenshot... there' s some color bleeds, missing fields, random code bits in there. It should be a list of fields, then values, most of which are N/A, which is correct.

I just replied to your email. I don' t see the problems.
I' ve received it in both Outlook Express and regular Outlook. Everything looks great.
I did a ' view source' and looked at the code, but of course all looks well under the hood.

Check the email and let me know if comes to you formatted correctly.

What version of outlook are you using? Mine is 5.50 here at work. I' m not sure about home, but I' m using XP there.

It looks perfect in your reply! Grrt. :P I' m using Outlook Express 6.0, and Outlook 2000. I' ll do some more client testing.

I still can' t find anything for why my client displays it incorrectly. All the html formatting options in Express look fine, and there aren' t many. It does the same thing in full Outlook too.

Okay, I -think it' s Outlook Express screwing things up. I just sent one to my Outlook account and it looked fine. When I fwd the email from Outlook to Outlook Express, though, it displays correctly. If it goes to Outlook Express first, it is muddled.
