Search Engine Info Needed - 8/28/2002 20:36:36
Okay...need some input here. I know most of you are against using search engine submission software so I ask you this.... Which engines do you manually submit to when you are submitting customer websites? I' ve developed many sites, but have always used software to submit them.... I want to give up the " crutch" and navigate towards manual submission but am not sure where to start.

before you submit place this in your home page... i find it works well and saves some hassels: <meta http-equiv=" revisit-after" content=" 15 days" > ------ just my 2 cents

J-man, this looks like a good idea and a great tip. Looks like you' re inviting the spider to come back - is that what it' s doing? If so, is 15 days the best time period or is that just off the top?

J-man, I am currently using the tag <meta name=" revisit-after" content=" 15" > Is there a difference in what I am using and what you are suggesting? --jackie

From my understanding the robots have a mind of their own and will have a chuckle each time they see a tag (Nowadays) telling them to come back every two weeks. Like with Google, it will do a sweep over a few days and log what you have for the next update in a few weeks time. If you see your site in Google with a date next to the cache info, its then you can add extra content that may be spidered and updated every few days ( like news sites) but it can also disappear for a year before retuning you that little favour. Ie I had one" refress tag" 2 days ago and then tried updating the site, but next day the " refresh date had disappeared" Oh well, had my chance & missed it!

Radio guy, your on the ball with that, some use 15 days some 30 days, doesn' t work for all search spiders and i think most use 30 days, but google works well with 15 so what the heck... thats my thinking... hmm this is going some where... so when using meta name at 15 days you are not giving the spider an alternative besides the 15 days... so if it doesn' t concure with the spider its ignored... where as http-equiv is like saying, i perfer 15 days but if you, Mr./Miss/Mrs (what have you...<like they' re human> don' t work that way then choose a way that you do work. So it catches regardless. I' ve had a bit on wine so blah blah balh...
