Fatboy Slim -> Up-dating websites on-line (8/30/2002 16:54:47)

Can anyone please tell me how I can up-date a website on-line using FP2000. I really need a " step by step" guide - hope someone can help.

Thanks.

If you have IE 5.5 or IE 6 you can just click on the site, and then click the Edit with FrontPage button on the toolbar. That will open the site " live" in FP and you can edit away! (You still need the login name and password for the server...)

Does anyone have any step by step instructions on how to do this ?

I tried a few times without success.

Any help appreciated.

Are you using Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6?

If so:

Open your browser
Go to the website you wish to edit
(ie http://www.yoursite.com)

Once you have arrived at the index page, click the button on the browser toolbar that says Edit (make sure Front Page is selected from the menu if one appears)

You will be asked for the user name and password to access the files on your host server.

This will open up the website in Front Page, and it will be " live" on the server.

Make any changes you need to make...

Click File > Close Web

Then close Front Page

Now back in your browser click " refresh"

That should do it.

If you are using another web browser, let me know... you can also do this from within Front Page...

Sorry to be a pain, but I need some more help please.

I am trying to modify a very simple site for a client which has been designed in Dreamweaver. I have the USER ID and PASSWORD for the site, but when I click the Edit in FrontPage icon on the tool bar, it does not ask for USER ID and PASSWORD.

I did try this with a site built using FP2000 and this also was the case.

Questions:

1) Can I modify a site which has been developed using Dreamweaver ?

2) Why does' t the USER ID and PASSWORD request appear when opening a live web ?

Any help appreciated as always.

If you mean that you can open and edit the site without being asked for a username and password, then that should not be the case, it is a considerable security risk and you should contact your host about it. You can open any site you like in FP, but any changes you make can only be saved to your own local machine.

I have never tried editing a DW site using FP. I was under the impression that to edit a site with FP it needed the FP extensions installed but I could be wrong about that.

What you will be able to do is open the site, but not to edit and save the changes to your server.

Best thing to do is use FTP if it is a DW site.

Definitely check with your host.

I have a trouble ticket queued at the moment because they had a problem last week. While fixing it, they removed permissions to run FP executables.

They have re-enabled some permissions, but I cannot publish with FP or
go to the website and do File/edit with FrontPage. It just keeps coming back to the log-in box..until it gives up and LOOKS like it is open...but can' t save changes.

Hate when that happens over a holiday weekend...but I can do what I need with FTP at the moment.
