Manipulating Access data once sent - 3/28/2001 19:24:00
OK, I am feeling REALLY stupid so I apologize in advance.

I have a form sending results to an Access database that lives in my /fpdb folder on my web, which is ISP hosted. The database was created "automatically" via the form options in FrontPage.

I am not comfortable having live data on my ISP site; I'd rather have backup control, security etc on my local hard-drive. Therefore, I want to be able to collect those results from the online ISP server, import them into another Access DB residing on my local computer, so that I may manipulate the table within a broader and safer context (lots of queries, reports, etc, that only I should have access to).

The problem is, when I open the Access DB, I can't even save it anywhere (the save option is greyed out). I can't export data because it gives me an error that the address is too long...when I open the DB it seems to download data to a temporary internet file somewhere....basically I just can't figure out where the heck the database is? ANy tips on alternative ways of accessing it, or exporting just that table somewhere else?

Sorry to be so dumb. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Liz Greer

Hi Liz, heres the best way !

Open your web site live in FP

Now file > open web > Your local server

You now have 2 windows open.

Drag the copy of the database, from 1 server to the other.

Now you have a local copy that you can do with what you like!
