I just did a virus scan and found the following file, which I quarantined:

quote:

The file C:\Program Files\Evrsoft\1st Page 2000\IScripts\Buttons\Six buttons from hell.izs is infected with the JS.WindowBomb virus.

Has anyone else seen this that downloaded First Page, or could it have somehow been planted there?

<edit> Later found this link on their forum which explains it: http://developers.evrsoft.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=122&highlight=virus </edit>

Simonbots Add In Components for FP - 9/26/2002 11:35:43
http://www.at-frontpage.com/SimonBots/

I have used the custom scroll bar component as well as the hidden hit counter. The only drawback to the scroll bar component is that you need to be online to use it. Other than I think they' re pretty cool. He also has a pop up window add-in as well.

I hope this is the proper place to put these.

I have heard from others as well that the FirstPage is contaminated. Some days, you just can' t beat Notepad.

True enough. But other days you need a little more. As freebies go it is difficult to beat NoteTab Light as a text/HTML editor with bells on.

http://www.notetab.com/

You would have to fight very hard to take it away from me. I don' t know what the Pro version is like, but based on the free version I suspect it is very good.

Notetab looks pretty cool, and for $19.95, it seems worth it.

My backup is often VBScript Editor (http://www.koansoftware.com/Eng/script.htm). Bonus: it' s a single executable file that fits on a floppy, so I can keep a copy with me always (since PC troubleshooting has been added to my growing list of duties, that' s handy).

My HTML editor of choice (and it's FREE...):

Arachnophilia:
http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/index.html

v5.0 is Java-based, so it's cross-platform & insanely customizable.

v4.0 is Windows-based, so a little bit easier to use, and still very, very customizable.

Also worth mentioning:
http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html

The freeware version of EditPad Pro, and also indispensable. Tabbed multiple documents and other features the default Windows text editors don't have.

Hope this helps someone!

The "contaminated" file in FirstPage2000 isn't a virus, but it looks like one to AV software...

I read an article about it, but can't find it online at the moment...

It has something to do with the JavaScript engine if I remember correctly. The nice thing is that you don't need that file, so you can let NAV or other delete it and install away... it works fine without it.

The new version, 2003, looks really hot... I can't wait for the release of that one!

I highly recommend Quanta Plus to anyone who wants to try something new and different... I like it better than anything I've used to date, and it keeps getting better.

The current version isn't as WYSIWYG as FP or DW but the interface is fantastic. It has a great file comparison utility built in as well...

Oh yeah, it only works on Linux, but you can try it for free by downloading and burning a Knoppix disk. That way you can check it out without installing anything ;)

Hi friends,

If you are Looking for editors..then,
NoteTab is a great notepad editor that has a great deal more flexibility. You can have many pages open at once. Plus you can sort your lists alphabetically and numerically. The light version (free) has everything you'll need.

I hope this helps,

Yeah but it requires KDE and I'm on Fluxbox... :) That's a shame.

And for an HTML editor I recommend Vi IMproved. But that's only a recommendation, it takes some time to learn to use it. If I have to build a website, I only use Vim. It's not Linux only, though. It runs on Windows, Unix, Mac, DOS, OS/2 and Amiga among others, and it has both console and "graphical" versions. Oh and it's free.

EDIT: I forgot to mention it's just a text editor for 200+ programming languages. :)

Regards,
Bamse

That is the one drawback...

While I prefer KDE to Gnome, Flux or IceWM... Enlightenment is quickly growing on me and it won't work there either...

I like other KDE apps too tho, so other than being a little bit slower than the "lighter" window managers I get by with it.

:)

It is actually in one of their great tutorial files. As I recall, it's called "buttons from hell" or something like that and it was a tutorial on creating virus-like stuff. Old AV software didn't pick it up. Now it does.

Anyway, I've never used FirstPage much, but I wish I'd found it when I was new to web authoring. I think it is the best software for instructing someone new. The tutorials and snippets are great.
