Job description for moderators - 9/9/2002 14:55:03
We' ll be developing a job description, so to speak, for moderators to help with a small, private forum (bb). All that moderators do here and at similar forums may not be as obvious as they appear.

If you were writing a job description for a moderator, what would you include?

thanks, gail

Hi Gail,

Here is a link to the Moderators guidelines for my site: http://www.maggotdrowning.com/modinfo/moderator_guidelines.htm

The instructions relate to a Sntz BB but it should give you an idea,

Dave

That looks to be a fairly good description.
I wouldnt suggest subscribing to a forum here as a moderator though, you may get a little busy sorting emails :)

Lol Spooky, I know the feeling :)

To get around the amount of emails that can clog up a moderators personal inbox we offer each a POP3 email account specifically for that purpose - free of course [:P]

One bit of advice I can pass on Gail is when enlisting the help of moderators is to ensure firstly that their numbers are relative to the number of posters as too many can become overkill.
Secondly, when selecting potential moderators don' t forget that you ideally need 24hr coverage on a busy board. So find out what hours your potentials can cover and try to get an even spread - you don' t want them all available at the same time and none when needed.
Finally if you have the ability to make a ' hidden' forum for select users, set one up as a ' Moderators Lounge' or similar where they can keep in touch with one another and discuss any issues. This is particularly helpful.

Dave

Dave, thanks. The information is very helpful. I like the name and logo for your site.

Spooky, I moderate a very small bb for my community and to some extent know what you mean. At least the majority of us here live far away so people don' t call and start knocking on your too, as they do here when things get hot under the collar. Or do they?

Hmm, I would describe it Like this.

If the job spot was open:
Great moderator jobs here. All you have to do is moderate a forum and make sure it is up to date. Good pay! Sign Up Here!

If was in the news or magazine:
Well a moderator is a person who moderates a forum or web page, some moderators do much more than others, but they are all equal!

I think it would be best to assign a task force to brainstorm and pass their findings on to comittee where the concept can be formalized into a proposal.

The comittee then should present to the board of directors and, pending approval, hold a joint session meeting with the marketing department, accounting department, and sales department.

After which there should be a mandatory company meeting to discuss implimentation of the plan where details can be explained and questions answered.

Follow that up with a debriefing and send all meeting minutes back to administration where they can be compiled, proof-read, and archived.

I would find it insensitive to offer a fleece.
The whole sheep would be a more worthwile?
