Web publishing error message - 9/11/2002 19:44:51
Cannot publish web page changes. After location , permission blocks filled in, file upload begins and within seconds I get a Microsoft Front Page error message that " the server timed out" . Checked with my server (Verio) and the only solution given was to uninstall FP 2000 and reinstall which I have not done. Any suggestion?

Ok well I pinged your server and all was well....but since I don' t know if a publish would fail at the same time it is pretty useless.

Open a COMMAND PROMPT
Type the following ping www.nostalgiagifts.com
Hit enter and make sure you have 0% loss...if you have 0% loss then you successfulling pinged your server. So that means that you can reach the server.

If you server is " timing" out it could be a lot of things...but I am thinking it could be that the server is " conking" out on you...however I say that because it was the cause for me. Have you brought up this issue with your host?

Ask your host to check the frontpage server extensions, easy to do on a MS web server anyway. If the server extensions check good, doublecheck your pages for any problem html code and try again. Make sure you can browse to a web page on the same site.

Thanks. I did talk yo a " Verio" tech. He said extensions were ok..all was ok. Also said there may be a timer setting on FP but this problem has not occurred before and I have not changed anything. JustJay, how did you find out my web is nostalgiacountrygifts? (needs work, but remember I cannot publish).

Connie,

Welcome to Outfront.

I don' t know if this has anything to do with your particular problem but you can check one MS KB article Here
I had a somewhat similar problem a while ago, that' s not to say the same... but you can check out this post Here
Like I said, it may have nothing to do with your problem but it' s a place to start.

As for JustJay knowing your web site address... You put it in your profile.:):)

Hey Mike54....have you any idea how many times I have gone to the profile and there NOT be a URL - this time I was lucky!! :) However there have been a few times that I have made that assumption and it be the wrong site...

I am searching through FP and the only reference to TIMEOUTs I can find is with regards to a database and that is NOT what we need here....

Were the FPSE installed after you started using your web space???

If you go to Google and search for

" the server timed out" Frontpage <<-- Put the quotes in the search string

You will find a lot of hits. Then open Google groups and you' ll find pages of threads on this error from various newsgroups. You' ll probably find a solution there if you look long enough.

Hi,

I receive the same error when publishing to my Personal Web Server on my PC. I am running W2k with IIS and FP2002 server extensions installed.

I am installing Internet Explorer 6 SP1 to see if that eliminates the problem.
