meta name=" Identifier-URL" - Allows you to specify the URL of the site.
meta name=" revisit-after - Allows you to specify with the spider (robot of the engine) how often to reindex your site following the interval in days given.

I disagree. Many engines DO use it. But you want to have a " robots.txt" in your root directory of your web. It doesn' t hog any bandwidth, because it' s under 2kb.
Do a search for " robots.txt" on the web and it' s quite simple. If you need an example, I can upload mine...

LOL - I think some of the smaller ones use it. Since it is only I line I use it most of the time. It is mention in may sites if you look up the meta tags.
The revisit tag - I see on some sites - not on others. I use it if I update the site more frequently than I think it will get spidered. It does not take up much room & it can' t hurt.

The first one is a waste of space in the <head></head> section of your documents. It was thought at one point that using this tag would coerce the spiders to visit more frequently. Unfortunately that is not the case. It is used specifically for certain resources to provide a hint for a rescheduled visit. It does not make AV (Scooter) or Google (Googlebot) come back 10, 15 or 20 days later as suggested in the tag. It does not work!
Just think, if the revisit tag worked, many people would abuse it and have spiders come back every day. Its useless in the overall scheme of SEO/SEM. It can be useful for certain resources such as Intranets and Extranets who are indexing their own content and know that the members in their database are using it per the rules. Some smaller SE' s may also use it but may ignore it if there is abuse detected.
The second one is specific to Apple...

You will find quite a few online resources that give incorrect metadata usage. Why? Because someone, somewhere started the tale and others followed. After a while, it becomes their truth and the unsuspecting end up loading their <head></head> with bloated metadata.

Those are the barebones basics and the only ones that have any importance with the spider based search engines. Hold on, there is one other and that is the [url=" http://www.seoconsultants.com/meta-tags/robots.htm" ]Robots META Tag[/url]. This is to be used if you cannot create a robots.txt file in your root directory.
By the way, the [url=" http://www.seoconsultants.com/robots-text-file/index.htm" ]robots.txt file[/url] is used to exclude content from search services. If you do not have one, the spiders interpret this as free reign to do what they wish when spidering your site.
