Hi D,

I like the colors. The pictures in the 2nd gallery did not come through.
What program are you using for the picture gallery? Nice.

Barry

Barry...

The painting are photographed using a Fugi digital camera, the images are optimized using Paint Shop Pro V7.4, The slide shows are a java script, you can view in the source code...
Feel free to copy the scripts, gratis

I have been working on the slide show#2, so it was probably down when you viewed...

Thank you very much for your input,

Regards, Robert

update:
The slide show #2 is partialy inoperative, Some of the paintings may be viewed by clicking on the manual play back button, the host FTP server is off line, I' m unable to correct the error at this time...

Robert,

I really felt that I was looking at the web site of an artist. The color choices are outstanding.

I have reviewed the site with IE6, NN 7, NN 4.76 and Opera 6.
The Slide Show executes very well in IE 6. However, not at all in NN 7, NN 4.76 and Opera 6. None of the latter are major players, but NN 7 is going to be pushed by AOL Time Warner and its renaissance may be just over the horizon.

I personally wouldn' t include the links to pages that contain statements such as: " We are still working on this information" Just leave the link off until you have something to offer. Specifically: Awards and Exeter Show.

Charles...

Thank you very much for your response!

My endeavor was to minimize the visual attributes of the site itself, so that it would not compete with the artist in an attempt to advertise myself.

I uploaded the Exeter and Award pages and headed for the Show.
I snapped 58 paintings, returned home and began to process them, to find that 53 of them had flash spots on them. I' ve got to go back to the Exeter show and start over...

When I attempted to drop the two links that you mentioned, the host FTP server is off line! So I' m stuck for now!

To be straight forward, I prefer a critique that' s a little more on the gritty side rather a bunch of accolades and kudos...

Thank you very much for the browser check.
I' m aware of the script failure, but I' m in the learning stage and have backed off on worrying about all of those browsers, as I don' t have the skills yet to deal with them.

Every Css style and java script I use, I have learned on line from the various script sites tutorials. It' s a real struggle for me to get' em to run in IE5! I' m relieved when I have a success...

To be honest I really don' t know how to get the scripts to work except in IE...

Regards and thanks again for your reply...

Robert

Robert,

I hope that you meant " Publish." To me " upload" conotes using the FTP protocol rather than FrontPage' s HTP protocol using Publish.

I am usually criticized for criticizing and no acolades!

Very lovely site, great color comb. Fabulous artist.

I' d like to make a few comments and observations about your navigation which is very important at any website. To be honest, I find navigation confusing at times, other times down right annoying. There is an inconsistency about it.

For example, you click on one link then the name of another link appears in it' s place on the next page. Or it disappears altogether. On one page you click on the arrows to get to another. But then a single arrow may appear on that page. Click on the arrow and nothing happens (though the yellow hover color will show).

On the page where the Pruchase Procedures Overview is located, I think it is difficult to find the links in your text. Either bold face them, underline them, or something. I' m not sure the yellow hover does the trick. Hyperlinks should be intuitive and, imho, easy to find.

I also consider bold facing the title and subtitles: pricing, delivery, payment, etc.

Charles...

I don' t know whay you would hope that?

I' ve used FP since FP98 and have never published a single file, but always use WsFtp. I' m now using FP2002.

I perfer to be in control of my files, rather than let FP take over...

I have additional opinions concerning FP, but I won' t comment further since this is a FP forum.

I' ll just say, " that since I began using FP I' ve never had FP extentions installed on a server..."

Regards, Robert

Gail,

This site is being finalized for submission to the search engines,
All of the minor details will taken care of in their own time.

Thank you very much for your observations.
I am well aware of each detail that you pointed out.

The odd links that you may see here and there, are preliminary navagation and all will deleted in the final draft...

Right now, I' m laying out the fundamental structure for the clients approval.

There is only so much time in the work day!

Regards and thank you for your input!

Robert

Hi again Robert,

A few more suggestions. In slideshow area:

<< Previous

instead of

Previous <<

Would love to see borders around the paintings here, too. If not beveled, a 1 point border might do. If the later, you can quickly add a black, 1 or more pt border in FrontPage via the picture properties menu.

gail

btw, accolades and kudos often come with the territory at Outfront. Even when ya don' t ask, ya may get ' em. :)

I, for one, would whimper to myself like a little lost puppy dog if I didn' t get a least one miniscule kudos in a site critique.

Thanks a lot for your observations, Gail...

I' ve overlooked that previous button and would never have noticed it!
You have a very keen eye...

I have looked at several of the images with borders around them, but couldn' t settle on a style, because I' m obsessed with minimizing download time! I' m still in the process of sizing the images.

I' m going to try your suggestion and see how it looks...

Robert,

I started with FrontPage 97.

I also started programming main frame computers in 1957. This was when machine instructions were the norm. There were no " application programs." You simply designed you system and wrote the programs to execute them (all in 10,000 positions of volatile memory). Then along came Assembler Language, followed by AutoCoder, COBOL, FORTRAN. Each making the programmers life easier and more productive. In the early 1960s along came an operating system and later languages like C and C++.

What I am saying is, that when some product comes along that makes my life easier, I use it! That is why I use FPSEs, and always Publish. I agree that if you don' t use the FrontPage functions that require the FPSE, you don' t need to publish.

Charles...
I agree with you completely,
(and thanks for the resume! although irrelevant)

But, for the assumption that FP publish makes life easier...

I prefer the WSFTP client and server side windows...

I consider it a huge restriction... Especially FP extensions!
Which restrict a webmaster from using the server of their choice.

As are most of the FP gadgets and doodads.

I prefer CSS and scripts.

I suppose that I use FP mostly out of laziness...

As an wysiwyg editor, a page layout device and several times to download sites from the web, after my HD had been formatted!

As you can see in my source codes, there is no mention of Bill Gates.
As soon as he links to my site, I' ll do the same for him!

Regards, Robert

Robert,

It' s interesting that Bill Gate' s browser is the only one that you can get your scripts to work on!

I like the mat effect with its shadow and highlights surrounding the pages of the site. It subtly reinforces the " art" image and shows that you achieved your stated goal " ...to minimize the visual attributes of the site..."

Charles...

Thanks very much for taking the time to help me!

It means a great deal to me that you have gone out of your way and given of yourself... to aid my efforts.

Got to give credit where it' s due, if it wasn' t for Bill, Myself especially and no doubt hundreds of thousand of other, " would be webmasters" , would be twiddling their thumbs somewhere and it wouldn' t be in front of a PC...
Bill Gates has truly changed the modern world...

I recognize and deeply admire his contribution and genius, but on the other hand, I' ve paid him for his stuff, so I feel the he and I are even. :)

Thanks again and hope to hear from you in the future!

Your friend, Robert
