Page Title Icon - 9/15/2002 5:32:33
Hi,

How can I add my own icon before my page title, instead of the Internet Explorer icon.

Regards
Hisham

Hisham,

You ask very good questions. Do you mean the icon in the window header bar??? Upper left hand corner - right before your title??? The same wndow header bar that contains the max, icon and close icons on the upper right side???

Its a favicon.ico image - there is a tutorial here that will show you how to make and add one to your site:

Hisham,

I went to Katherine' site.
I think this site meant in a menu???
But I' m not sure.

Window Header Icon:

I KNOW for a fact that it CAN be done in C++. You need " engineer level" control of the window itself to perform that. The icon is connected to the browser window, not the web. It CANNOT be done in FP or ASP. Maybe VB or JS Script could accomplish this task. I' m not sure. But I' m going to check some sites for you and see what I can find. I' ll post tonight with my results.

Post back and let me know if Katherine solved your problem.
LLL

Hi Katherine,

This is very nice and useful, I wanted to ask about it too sometime ago.

What I meant in my post wast the icone at the upper right corner of the browser, before the name of your page or site. In your site' s case it will be the icon before http://cheapwebtricks.com/tutorial/favicon2.shtml.

Thanks a lot for the tutorial.

Regards
Hisham

It' s the same thing, both pages are part of the same tutorial.

The icon that appears in the favorites list will be you favicon.ico, and it will appear in the browser addess bar also. But only in browsers that support it, which as fas as I know is only IE.

I have never used one so I know nothing about them, but that tutorial seems pretty thorough.

Hisham,

IE 6 requires that you first place your web site on your favorites list. If you clear your cache, they are gone.

NN 7 does support the favicons with no overt action on the viewers part. It also places the name of the site, preceded by the favicon on open site tab. NN7 supports multiple sites open so that you can toggle from one to the next.

All of my web sites have the favicon. They all appeared when visiting the site and in my favorites list in IE 6. Then, when NN 7.0 was installed, I no longer see the favicon in IE 6, only NN 7?

Opera 6 does not support.

Do me a solid... Post me the address to one of your sites that has a favicon on it.
I want to see one in action...
Thanks,

To all that wanted me to post pages with favicons:

That should be enough to illustrate their use.

Charles,

Thanks for the links. I went to your sites and didn' t see them. Do I have to bookmark your site(s) first???

Mark,

I should have mentioned that IE6 requires that you place it in your Favorites list.

NN 7.0 does not require any overt action on the viewers part. Opera 6.2 ignores the whole subject.

Charles,
Thanks for the info. I can see it now. I put http://www.anthemwebs.com in my " favorite places" list and I got a brown " A" in a yellow background in the " favorites list" and in the " URL" bar too.
Interesting....
Thanks :)
LLL

After reading the posts on this subject I still don' t understand why my favicon keeps " vanishing" . It' s on my site one time but not the next.

The only way I can view it is to remove the Bookmark from my Favorites, go to my site, Bookmark it again, and go back to my site. I' m really perplexed. [:j] One post I read mentioned that if a browser is set to refresh each time it' s opened that this will cause the icon to not be seen. How do I un-refresh my browser setting?

P.S. Please be kind if you critique the site. This is a work in progress and it' s my first attempt at doing a website. I' ve done this for a longtime friend of mine and it' s mainly an E-newsletter for her customers. She seems to be happy with it; at least we' re still good friends! :)
