web hosting ideas - 9/15/2002 12:14:34
I have found out that the two web hosting services I use do not support ASP. Therefore I am unable to save form data into a database.

So, I would appreciate some ideas here. First, I would like to test some of the ASP I have put together and see if the info is actually getting stored into the database.

On another vein, suppose I get a third host for the ASP functionality. How would I put pages up on that site? My 2 sites are registered and running fine for what I need to do, so I don’t want to move them to the third web host.

Do I have to get another domain name, register it, and then post that to the third web host?

I think you mean you can' t save to a " Access" database - Doesn' t your host support MySQL?

Publish them.

Sounds right.

Hi Gil,

Thanx for the response.

I am not a very experienced web developer. I use FP, and I want to keep it within the parameters of my limited abilities.

So, I want to post to an Access database because it seemed simple enough to do with FP. I had no idea that the hosting service would stop me in my tracks, so that tells you a bit about my experience with publishing web sites.

Also, I am very experienced with Access, so that is another reason.

Just to let you know, I use Datapeer as my host and they support fp and asp. I' ve had a couple of other host and they were a real :) pain! Since i' ve switched over I haven' t had any problems and it' s pretty easy to setup things like your server extentions, asp, etc.

Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions.
