Quick way to indicate don' t publish - 9/17/2002 21:05:48
After years of marking pages to not be published the hard way, I just discovered that if you go into reports view there is a column for Publish Status. You can select each file and select " Don' t Publish" from a drop down. Had I known this before I could have saved myself A LOT of clicking!!!:)

EWD,

You could also right-click on a file in the Tree (folder list display) and select or un-select " Don' t Publish" status.

Regards,

dario

I don' t have time right now to draw a dunce cap on my " Pepe" icon, but can somebody tell me why the heck you' d make a folder or file in a website folder that you wouldn' t want to publish?

I do most work on a local web server, then publish to the ISP. In the course of working on stuff I accumulate many test pages, etc., that I don' t want on the final site but I don' t want to delete from my development environment.

Usually I end up using Visual InterDev and drag & drop files & folders from the local server to the ISP, but if FP offered a way to exclude these work folders I' d publish with it instead.

Didn' t have a dunce cap graphic immediately at hand. Will this do? I make templates all the time and never even thought about not publishing them

Is this just in versions past 2000 or am I missing something. I can' t make either EWD' s or Dario' s suggestion work.

Help! I would love an easy way to not publish certain pages.

Works with FP2000 for me. In Page view, right-click a file, open the properties page, click the Workgroup tab and there is a checkbox for excluding the file from publishing.

There is not a corresponding checkbox in a folder properties.

Paula - I' m using FP2000.
1) With your web open, click View>Reports>Publish Status.
2) You' ll see a list of all your files and the 3rd column should be " publish" .
3) Click in one of the publish cells, then click again.
4) A drop down will appear allowing you to select between " Publish" and " Don' t Publish" .

See it? :):)

Thanks Guys,

Doug - it does help when one goes to the right screen :) I didn' t go beyond General

EWD - I managed to get the report view to work. Thanks for the further explanation. I then knew I was trying to do it right.....after reading your explanation I tried again and found out it just requires a slower double click then I was giving it. It' s always the simple things :) Glad you found this way to do it. Makes life so much easier.

Thanks again.
