MarYo -> Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/18/2002 14:04:21)

Hi all.
I' m the owner and webmaster of www.space-graphics.com

I' m currently a FP2000 user that I use without particular problem and suit almost all of my needs.

I' m buying now a new pc with windowsXP-pro preinstalled and with a cheap expense, is possible to purchase FP2002.

Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 ? The new feature added are useful ? Is the application stable and trouble free ?

Your opinions and suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!

Thanks and Bye

Mario

MarYo,

I just bought 2002 and haven' t installed it yet. As I read the manual for installation, it confused me to a point where I didn' t want to stop what I was doing to install it. They mention installing client and host. I' m not sure but installing on my machine is only client??? Something has to go to the server??? I don' t know. But I do know this, 2000 and below were much easier to install. I' m scared that if I install it, it will open a can of worms in my already nicely working system: FP2000, Access2000, PWS. This is a good question though. I will be watching this post carefully to see other posts and to determine if it' s worth installing (risking my working system).

Client and Host ? Mmmm... I' m also confused.
It' s better to wait for some suggestion from exprerienced users.

Bye

Mario

OK folks,

Host is the server, either remote or IIS if using W2k or WXP (or you mentioned PWS)

Client is you—the FP developer.

To be absolutely safe, install FP 2002 in a different folder for testing. Open your existing sites live (at the host) and Publish with FP 2002 to a folder on your hard drive for use as a client.

Thanks to Charles for the info about the Client and Host question.

My curiosity is if FP2002 is a good purchase for people like me that have FP2000.

Bye!

Mario

Gil -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/19/2002 19:25:07)

Upgraded to 2002 a couple of days after it was released and have never looked back. I don' t understand the comment about " 2000 and below were much easier to install." - it was a clean, simple upgrade and fixed a few of 2000' s problems and I can' t imagine ever going back.

Charles W Davis -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/19/2002 20:39:01)

Mario,

If FP 2002 has function that you need. Go for it!

puiwaihin -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/19/2002 21:08:22)

Unlike Gil, I' ve looked back, but not of my own free will!

I had FP98 at home, then got FP2000. The improvement was like night and day. Then we got OfficeXP with FP2002 at work. I really liked all the new features. I switched jobs almost half a year ago and have only been using FP2000 at home. The only thing between me and a copy of FP2002 is a spare $80 (educational pricing). I miss it.

MarYo -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/20/2002 0:11:18)

Thanks to all of you for the information. Well, since the upgrade cost is affordable, I will switch to FP2002.

FP2000 is great and easy to use, I hope FP2002 will be the same or better.

Greetings

Mario

Charles W. Davis,

Will FP2002 install in Win98???

MarYo -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/20/2002 15:42:51)

The Microsoft Office dedicated web site report that OfficeXP run on Win98

For all the specs, take a look here:

Porterhouse -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/20/2002 16:19:08)

I have been running a demo of FP2002 and find lots of problems working between it and Office 2000 that I did not encounter with FP2000. I don' t know if this is due to it being a demo and having bugs or if this is just the way it works?

Mike54 -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/20/2002 16:33:06)

If the (slight) expense isn' t a problem, go for it. I can' t say I' ve had any serious problems with 2002 except for maybe a conflict due to trying to have it and 2000 on the same machine (and that only for J-Bots 2002). Yes. it will run under Win98 - no problem. Runs with Win2K and NT too [;)], haven' t tried with Win95 but I could try that tomorrow just for fun...

Long Island Lune -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/20/2002 20:39:15)

Thanks for the info MarYo, Porterhouse and Mike54.

Great news.
There' s only one more thing..... PWS.
Can I still use PWS in W98 with FP2002???

Thanks for all the info folks.
I appreciate it.
LLL

hhammash -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/21/2002 13:23:34)

Hi,

Yes FP 2002 can run on Win98

I am using FP 2002, it is good, stable and has nice features. I upgraded to FP 2002 with no problem until now. Almost two years now.

Hisham

Long Island Lune -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/21/2002 13:54:10)

Hisham,

So your saying that PWS will still work in W98 with FP2002???

Thanks,
LLL

Long Island Lune -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/21/2002 13:55:20)

Hisham,

Check my question (2 questions back) in this post concerning PWS.
Thanks,
LLL

hhammash -> RE: Do you suggest to upgrade to FP2002 (9/21/2002 16:26:11)

Hi LLL,

I am using IIS and Iusually work live on the server, I don' t have any idea that you should install something on the server other than the extensions.

Hisham
