XP Professional Edition - 9/19/2002 13:27:35
I am a web developer currently using Windows 98 , PWS, Frontpage 2000, and Access 2000. I have developed several sites utilizing the Frontpage DRW and Access databases. I would like to continue to do this. I am looking to buy a new computer and want to switch to Windows XP, Frontpage 2002 and keep using Access 2000. I understand that Windows XP Home Edition is not designed to be a development platform for web-based applications. I understand the Windows XP Professional will allow you to install IIS 5.1 on your system so you can develop with ASP.Net. My question is ... with the web server capabilities offered by Windows XP Professional Edition will I be able to develop and test regular .asp pages on my desktop PC as I have always done with PWS and Fronpage DRW ... or am I restricted to only being able to develop and test .Net pages ...which I am not familiar with ? thanks Ashley Davies

You will be able to develop and test both traditional ASP and ASP.Net pages. Dave

Unless they' ve added it recently, you will need to download and install the .NET framework on your XP Pro computer. 20+MB no problems putting it on my machine with IIS5.1, Visual Studio and much other stuff.
