barry -> Barter Accountant Site (9/21/2002 10:16:15)

Hi everybody,

I did a barter deal with my accountant, and this is the result. I would really appreciate any critiques or feelings.

I just bought SWISH a few days ago and I have not quite figured out how to make the SWISH intro go to the page yet so just click the enter after being mezmorized by Swish (he he)

http://www.bmc-llc.net

Thanks a bunch
Barry in Baltimore

The overall look is as professional as this kind of business needs.....

HOWEVER........... [:o][:o]

With a quick look I have spotted MANY spelling mistakes which undo all your good work. For example:

On your nav buttons GOVERMENT, should be GOVERNMENT
On the first page (proper) swish intro, NECESSAARY & SUCSEFULLY, should be NECESSARY & SUCCESSFULLY

.....and grammar:

The company strategically hired individuals , in context should be: The company strategically HIRES individuals

As there is a lot of text on the site there are probably many more. I would suggest that you get someone with a good standard of English to check the site thoroughly and correct it.

......btw, I am sure that many members will agree with me when I say: DITCH THE INTRO!!!

tterrifc -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/21/2002 13:14:43)

I was just checking it out and when I hit your news button, my IE 6 crashed. So, I don' t want to go back in. I agree with piquet. I can add that you should make sure all your body text and headlines are the same size. You have many different sizes going on there. I also noticed that some of your tables stretched out causing unsightly gaps in your navigation on some of your pages.

Consistency is key. Nice use of themes. Keep up the good work!

Just an opinion.

Thanks TT and Piquet,

I agree with the spelling/english comment. The good thing is I have corrected many errors already. I also simply cut and pasted from a Word Doc they gave me. Grammatical errors I don' t spend alot of time on because I can' t spell my way out of a paper bagg, bag, so I don' t even read much of the stuff. I have asked them to do exactly what you sugested so we will see. I will correct t he into spellings.

The intro is what they really, really like. I think I could have put almost anything up as long as it had a " cool" intro. So........

Thanks a bunch!

I hate it when someone gives me copy that has spelling and grammar errors, but FP really does a pretty good job of catching most. Even if the customer corrects the errors, I' d still give it the once over. After all, if there are errors, who do you think will get blamed (hint, hint, not the customer!)? [:j]

Is there any way you could shorten the first page after the intro? I don' t think the links on the lower part of the page are really necessary since you have the main navigation going to each sub section.

You have some alignment and spacing problems going on with your tables. The pages are jumping around quite a bit with you click the links.

Nice looking site, you just need to " tweak" it a bit. [:)]

Good luck!
Swirl

barry -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/21/2002 14:51:54)

Thanks Swirl,

Looks like it will be a " tweaking" week-end!

FP tables I find to be a pain, but until I take the time to figure out something else FP is it.

Actually I was going to blow away the bottom part. Once the client said he/she liked the breaking glass thing

Thanks,

No accounting for taste. [:D] I wonder if they will still think that when visitors decide not visit the main site ´cos they´re too impatient!

Barry,

I doubt that this is the text that was given to you by the client:

ok, ok, ok does 2am in the morning count?[:(]

I fixed it!

Thanks a bunch

Charles W Davis -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/21/2002 20:07:37)

Barry,

At two in the morning lots of wierd things happen! Therefore, that counts.

barry -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/21/2002 20:30:53)

Thanks Charles,

Piquet - " Taste" is very relative. The best analogy I can use is similar to being a movie critic. We live on the web and look at sites with a critical eye all the time, but many " lay" folks still really like flash and swish stuff, and the customer is always right.

If eye candy is what a bunch of button down accountants want, who am I to deny them.[:)] If their visitors don' t want to see the intro and don' t click enter then I don' t think they really wanted to get into the site anyway.

I really do enjoy these discussions on the issue with you [:)]

Thanks again

StrictlyBeats -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/26/2002 11:26:40)

Hey , I like the site.. the intro too.. it was short and to the point and had an option of skipping. as for making the the intro go directy to the main page from SWiSH ..... right click the top portion of the timeline at the end of your movie ..... click " goto URL" enter the URL. [;)]

Hey! I like that animation about business shattering! That was cool!

I love the color scheme--it makes me think these people are definitely sure of themselves...it seems trustworthy and solid, or something.

The only thing I dislike is the navigation at the bottom of the page; perhaps instead of centereing the text you should have it flush left so they all start in the same place? I' m not a fan of centered text except for headlines. Or you could use one of those cool little java applet menus there, that has each option drop down when you mouse over it. THAT would look " COOL" and I' ll bet your clients would LOVE it.

tterrifc -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/26/2002 13:13:42)

Great changes, barry. Your search page doesn' t come up.[:j]

barry -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/28/2002 16:34:35)

Thanks Everybody for the help!

Sorry I was out of the Loop for a few days.

My wife made me take her to North Carolina ( 3 states away) to buy a little tiny weenie table that I will most likely break my toe on at night. I did' nt even have my lap top with me! The things we do for love!

I will wrap up some changes, and your suggestions this week-end

thanks again! [:)]

Barry

Terry- Do people really use the FP search pages? I thought I blew them away because I like to FTP and the FP server extensions are a pain.

Peppergal - were may I find such a wonderous java script link?!

Charles W Davis -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/29/2002 0:30:44)

Barry,

Yeah, it' s me again. All was well in IE 6, NN 4.76 and Opera 6. But something went haywire in NN 7. Take a look (this is 1/2 actual size):

barry -> RE: Barter Accountant Site (9/29/2002 5:21:07)

Thanks Charles,

I always appreciate your help. I can' t seem to figure out why it shows that way in NN. As you know i used tables and sometimes they are a pain. Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Barry
