The September Google Update is well underway. Historically Google has updated its main database once a month. The Google Dance as it is referred to in the SEO community begun early this morning and will continue for approximately 3-5 days. During that time, many in the SEO industry will watch the dance to see where their web site will be positioned for their targeted keyword terms.

For those of you not familiar with the Google Dance, you can see it in action by going to Google and typing in your search query. Once the results are shown, place your cursor right after the www in the address bar and put a 2 afterwards, like this...

http //www2.google.com/(leave the rest of the URL string here)

Leave everything else alone, now hit enter. This will take you to database 2 which contains new listings and the shift in the SERP' s (Search Engine Results Pages). To take it one step further, change the 2 to a 3 like this...

http //www3.google.com/(leave the rest of the URL string here)

Leave everything else alone, now hit enter. This will take you to database 3 which also contains new listings and the shift in the SERP' s.

During the month when Google is in its Everflux state (constantly changing), the results on www2 and www3 fluctuate. At this time, the main database at www and the secondary databases at www2 and www3 are stable and typically do not change although the total number of results is not the same most of the time.

During the Google Dance, all three databases have a tendency to change considerably hence the name Google Dance. There are many people right now checking www2 and www3 to see what the September update holds in store for them. Some will do well, others will not. Some will see an increase in Google PageRank, others will see a drop. And some will even see PageRank 0 (zero) (PR0) or a penalty of some sort.

If you are interested in seeing one of the biggest happenings in the SEO industry on a monthly basis, the Google Dance is it! I' ll be watching over the next 3-5 days to see how our directory does, where we' ve improved and where we might have lost some visibility. I will then investigate to see why we might have lost something and do some tweaking to see if I can gain it back in the October update.

The Google Dance usually occurs near the end of each month with the new database being live and stable at www by the very end of the month, or the first few days of the following month.

Enjoy the Dance!
