Site critique - 9/28/2002 23:27:41
Need of site critique of my first paying site. Be honest, but gentle:).

The site has two versions: one for IE and one for NS. I used an online flash generator for the nav. bar and it would not display correctly in ns. The index page will redirect depending on the browsers type. I am interested in how it looks in other browsers. The IE version has more animation and looks better. Any suggests would be appreciated, but remember I am a newbie......

The bright blue with the white is almost blinding. Too hard to read for me. The layout/design is nice.

Try to stick with one font for your content. I prefer arial or verdana, but that is a personal preference. I noticed most of your pages were times roman with one page arial.

John,

I agree with Shirley regarding the sans serif fonts. They are much easier to read on the screen. Serif fonts like Times New Roman were developed for the printed page and are superior in their element.

However, I suggest that the fonts color be black for readability.

I' ll be back with other image, but the following image is of your site when viewed with Opera 6:

John,

I suggest that you don' t link to the manufacturer' s site for the floor plans. I created a site for an RV dealer in California four years ago. The manufacturers were more than happy for me to place the images and floor plans on the client' s site. Make sure that you get this permission in writing!

This made the client very happy, and because it creates a maintenance workload that makes your income stream more pleasant. Working with a long e-mail distribution list, he kept contact with those that inquired about his inventory. He " worked" the clientele.

The client also used his digital camera to forward images of the used vehicle inventory.

The VeryInteresting v1.3: Loan Calculator was very interesting! A good plus for the site. It' s too bad that they couldn' t provide a background of looky-feely as your pages.

His clients drove from the entire Southwest to his lot.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I changed the font to Verdana as suggested. I would appreciate any suggests for the color scheme..

Charles,

I know the site does not look correct in netscape, as your examples show. That is why I created the alternate site for netscape. This is it below:

http://vanandrvsales.com/ns/index_ns.htm

How did you go about getting the floor plans from the manufacturer? Did you contact the manufacturer directly and let them email then to you or did you copy them off their website?

Thanks
John K.

John,

I e-mailed the company sales department and requested permission in written letter by mail. I asked for all pertinent images on their web site in order to better market their products. Make your request sound like you are doing them a service—at no cost to them!

Hi John:

I agree with the points above and add that on your " new inventory" page, where you' ve added the " reduced" price column to the right side of the table, this forces the page to expand and forces me to scroll sideways with a monitor set at 800 x 600. This is not in harmony with your other pages which, on IE, appear consistent to me.

The bright blue text font is too bright for me too, but this is especially true on the home page where you have the biggest block of running text. You might try a really deep, dark, dull purple. If it' s so dark that it' s almost black you should be able to keep with the color scheme you have going and get readability too. Sometimes these little subtleties can make a HUGE difference to how comfortable a site feels and how long folks want to stick around on it.

Hope this helps --

Hi John K.,
Your site looks a lot better now - Congratulations!
Where did you get the very cool rollover nav buttons?

Gerry,

Thanks...

The nav. bar was created using an online flash generator. Since more and more sites are using flash, I wanted to add some kind of flash to my site. I happend to stumble across this site (choose Generator):

http://www.freelayouts.com/

**I had problems getting it to work correctly in Netscape. 6.0 did ok, but anything less failed to show the buttons..
