Import PowerPoint Presentation to Your Web - 9/29/2002 17:48:56
Import Your Power Point Presentation
To Your Web

PowerPoint 2000
To import your Power Point Presentation into your FrontPage web site:

1- Open your presentation using PowerPoint
2- Select File/Save asWeb Page

Power Point will create a folder in the same location using the same name of your presentation that contains the files necessary for importing the presentation into you web. Let' s say that your presentation is named " Statistics.ppt" , then your folder for importing will be named " Statistics_files"

Now that you have created the folder with the files that you need for importing your presentation into your web, you are ready now to import this folder into your FrontPage web

1- Open your web in FrontPage
2- Select File/IMPORT
3- Click the ADD FOLDER button in the Import dialog box
4- Browse to the location where you save the Presentation Folder
5- Highlight the folder and click the OPEN button
6- Click the OK button in the IMPORT dialog box
7- Import process will start now

If your presentation is big, be patient it might take some time.

Now you have the folder and files of your presentation imported into your FrontPage web. You need now to create a hyperlink to the presentation to be viewed by your site visitors:

1- Open the page in your web site where you want to have the link to view your online presentation.
2- Place your cursor on the page where you want your hyperlink to appear.
3- In the folder list click the plus sign next to your presentation folder to expand it.
4- drag either the " frame.htm" or " fullscreen.htm" file on your open page.

The " frame.htm" creates a frameset page with thumbnail versions of your slides in the left pane and the current slide in the main, right pane. Clicking the thumbnail slides on the left will open that slide into the right or main pane.
The " fullscreen.htm" creates a fullscreen page for your presentation. To view the next slide the viewer can either click on the slide or let the presentation advance the slides automatically.

Once you have your hyperlink on the page select SAVE from the FILE menu. You may now switch to preview mode and preview your presentation by clicking the hyperlink you just created on the page.

To change the text of the hyperlink you created:

1- Highlight the text you have as the hyperlink
2- Right click and select HYPERLINK from the right click menu
3- In the hyperlink dialog box, at the top of the screen you will see an input box next to " Text to display"
4- Type in the text you wish to use as the hyperlink
Save your page

PowerPoint XP
01- File/Save As
02- Publish
03- Select your options
04- Select Destination
05- Publish
06- Open Frontpage
07- File/Import click Add Folder, then go to where you saved the folder
08- Open
09- OK to start Importing
10- File/Import click Add File, then go to where you save the folder
11- In the same location you will see an " htm" page
12- This page has the same name of your presentaion
13- Selected
15- Open
16- OK to start Importing
16- Drag the " htm" page that you imported to your web page where you want to make it appear.
17- Change the link text as you like

REMEMBER: when you want to publish the prsentation, make sure to click and select the " Animation" option while browsing.

Regards
Hisham

Has anyone tried to do this with PowerPoint 97. We had someone who wanted us to add their presentation to the web just the other day. Thanks!

Have followed your instructions to a " T" --thank you so much. However, at the end of the presenttation, when the page indicates " click to return to website" , an error message appears which says " The webpage you are viewing is trying to close the window. Do you want to close the window?" If you click yes IE closes. If you click no, the error message closes, but nothing at all happens. The only way to return to the website is to arrow back through the entire presentation. Any idea what' s causing this? Also, on some of the slides, sometimes, the background does not appear. Next time it opens, it does appear .
I know that this post if from a long time ago, but I was just recently able to implement it on my website. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hisham,

Great tip. I was having trouble just sending a powerpoint presentation in an email. I would package it up, send it, but files were always missing.
Instead of just sending an email with a presentation in it, I will put it in a web and tell them to go there a look.
