Scotty -> How do you streamline order taking? (10/15/2002 0:46:20)

We' re at the stage of business growth, (phone sales and on-line sales), that we need to look into a more streamlined method of processing orders.
We currently use Quickbooks for developing invoices, however, to get to that point we hand write a phone order, (or print the on-line order), then determine the shipping costs at UPS or whatever, then run the credit card, then go to Quickbooks. Whew!
So what' s the next step for a small shop?

Regards, Scotty

It' s too bad Quickbooks doesn' t provide more " operational" stuff like workorders (and a better inventory system). Years ago I ended up writing my own custom workorder/shipping/invoicing system which did fine for me while I needed it.

I got the QuickBooks SDK with the idea of emulating my previous system in a Windows program, but haven' t had the time or necessity to pursue this development.

Some form of automated customer tracking/order entry system sounds like it' s in order for your business. Unfortunately I don' t have a good recommendation for you :)

I called a friend of mine and this is what he uses.

Check this out!

WoW!

Thanks Seventh! I have also been trying to cut down steps in the process and QB was a BIG burden to maintain for all of the issues mentioned. After hours of beating it into shape I found it way to cumbersome to simply get and order out the door.

I will look into the Peachtree product, looks good.

Does any body use something eles?

Thanks,
Barry

Barry:
I have a friend who runs an onlie vitamin/suppliment business. She swears by peachtree. She wouldn' t use anything else for her business.

I hate to disagree on this however I have used Peachtree & I was not happy with.

The upgrades in Quickbooks have been easy to use and each version gets better & better. In 2002 you can create estimates & pay via credit card. I can also email invoices & statements which I like.

I am beta testing 2003 & there are many improvements in it. [:D][:D][:D]
