CAT5 OR CAT5e? - 10/19/2002 18:02:54
Hi there, By mistake I bought CAT5 instead of CAT5e the router I want to use is
10/100 Mbps dual-speed do you think it is worth to send the cable back and get
CAT5e or keep the same?

thanks for your suggestion

CAT5 is fine for 10/100.

My cable supplier no longer sells CAT5, everything is CAT5e.

Yes.

But if you' re concerned and if you can exchange the cable you have, go for cat5e which is spec' d out for 1000baseT gigabit ethernet.

you' ll never get max speed. that' s a theoretical limit. for a 10 mips network you' ll be lucky to get 6 and in reality you' ll be getting around 4-5 at best.
