Hey all...I' ve been doing a site for some co-workers...It' s not my first, but feel free to critique it. My questions is on the header area...please take a look at it and provide any suggestions you think would improve the look of the site. I don' t know why, but I just get the perception that something is missing. Maybe I' m using too much gray/silver. Also, anyone with Netscape 4.7 please check the site out and let me know what doesn' t work, if anything. If I recall, the photogallery doesn' t work in 4.7 yet...However, I may have fixed it already and just don' t know it. The site is still being built, but please, don' t hold back. Thanks, here' s the site: http://nrhfop.org

MB, Lots of good stuff! The gallery did not yet work in NN 4.76. Also, each page would only load when I clicked on the Reload icon. Things worked well in NN 7, IE 6 and Opera 6. For other types of web sites, the images wouldn' t cut it. But even the ones that you have might be improved with a bit of work in a photo editting program.

When I looked at the header I wondered if the organization is about badges and cars or is it about the police officers? Personal preference, I would like to see a squad of officers in the header. I like the page with the board members... makes it real personable. The only other question was ... will the minutes of meetings be public or will they be protected with a login system. Suggest they be protected unless their business decisions are real public anyway. Will you be adding instructions on how to get registered for login? I imagine the content is specific to your group and their wishes.. you might try stating the first page of " who we are" etc in slightly plainer language if you have license to do so. Otherwise it navigates well and is very nicely laid out.

Thanks for the suggestions. And to answer your questions....Yes, the association (NRH Fraternal Order of Police) wants the meeting minutes viewable to the public. And the login is for association members only, therefore, no registration page. They took care of registering username and passwords to members privately. Thanks again! MBM

Hi MBM! To answer your question about the header I offer the following, which are just personal impressions, really. For me the image used it too busy, and looks a bit like a collage, where someone cut police cars and such out of a catalogue and stuck them on top of each other with glue. (sorry, that' s the best way I can describe it...) I would suggest you just use the star shape and, if necessary, perhaps another image(s) faded down in the background. Also, I am very sensitive to the use of all caps. It has been scientifically proven that reading text that is ALL IN CAPS puts more strain on the eye/brain than does the use of lower case. For me, there is too much use of all caps in the header region. The site' s name/title doesn' t bother me so much, but all those buttons in two rows, all in caps, well that feels kind of " intense" or " heavy" to me. Howeber, perhaps that' s in keeping with the authoritative feel you want for this site, I don' t know. That' s my two cents. I don' t mind the silver/grey at all. And overall, the site feels very good and brings up the " I wish I knew PHP" whining that I indulge in occasionally ...

Good point Crispy. Maybe the front part of the car should be made more transparent, so it doesn' t show up " through" the head.
