Slide show with text - 10/22/2002 14:23:40
Has anyone used a free program to create a slide show with text captions on the bottom? I know the frontpage slide show can do it but it has to many images going across. I am willing to use java. This will need to sit in the page not as a separate page. Thanks Erin

Hey Erin, Any of these work??? http://www.javascriptsource.com Then do a search for slide shows Dave PS If you figure out how to use the FP slide show and can control the number of photos across the screen let me know. I don' t use it because it makes my site scroll horizontally and I don' t know how to change it. The drop down box for number of phots across is greyed out. Dave

Dave, FP always does that with the slide show. With some of the other image galleries I have been able to change that but, the lowest number always scrolls. I will like at this site & see if they have anything good. I was given a suggestion with ASP that looks like it will work. Thanks Erin

I built my site with Frontpage and am having the following problem. The middle of a page has a Frontpage wizard, the Photo Gallary - Slide Show, that is supposed to let you scroll right and left through small icons and then click on icons to view the larger pictures below. It works ok in IE, but on Firefox or Netscape, the page widens to be the width of all of the little icons, instead of letting the user scroll through the icons. It works ok in the preview mode in Frontpage, but when I upload it live my page stretches too wide. See this example (in Netscape or Firefox) http://www.tomatwood.com/up1test.htm I’d love to be able to fix this problem within Frontpage because I don’t have the skills to do my own coding or even know how to integrate code from another source. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice on how to rectify it? Could this be because of the hosting environment I’m using, by chance? Thanks in advance. Tom tatwood@nextleft.com

Hi Erin, I recently purchased this: http://www.kerberosdev.net/Products/15_Image_Studio.asp For me it's a lot better than many others and way ahead of the freebies and also not too expensive - $19.00 for a single licence. If you're a dreamweaver user it comes with a dreamweaver extension so you can click the tool and place your gallery anywhere on the page. I like it because it can be customised easily to fit your page and also has a size to fit option, which is great for pages that are built to expand to fit all screen resolutions. Nigel

Assuming you're willing to let the 800 x 600 visitors experience horizontal scrolling, experiment by changing the table width to 950 or so, then republish to check results.
