Here' s A New One... - 10/26/2002 23:40:41
Hello OutFront Friends,

I' ve been working on a page for a client and wanted some input. There' s something in the top graphic my husband hates, and he swears nobody will know what it is. ???

I was looking for some early critiques on it. Nothing is linked up to it yet; I don' t have any alt text as I' m waiting for her to approve the pics before I go to all that trouble. I would appreciate just a general impression. I would also like to know if the top graphic is painfully slow to load; I really can' t tell since it' s already in my computer....also, how did I do at getting keywords in the text of the page..does it sound redundant? (they kewords would be poconos, northeast pa, lake wallenpaupack, etc)

http://www.design-a-website.com/annindex.htm

Thanks in advance...

It should look good in NN4.7, 6, 7, Mozilla, and IE, as I' ve tested it in them. I like the way it looks in IE best, but all are acceptable, I think.

Peppergal,

Just took a waltz through and I like the colors and the graphics. I couldn' t really tell about the download time, since I' m using broadband.

However a few of things struck me:

First, the top graphic seems to be too big. At 800 & 600 it takes up most of the screen, so there is little information about the site being displayed.

The font used for ' Lake Wallenpaupack' is very difficult to read. For a name like ' Wallenpaupack' , it should be an easy font to see. (Suggest a non-script font.)

Also, around the ' Come to the beautiful Poconos' in the main image, it' s all squiggly. (I assume from optimizing the jpeg. Just a pet peeve of mine, but it' s not that bad.)

Keep the ' Hyperlinks' in some sort of consistency. Your visitors should be able to easily identify a link to other information. I didn' t realize that [Joseph J. Obrien, Realtor] was a hyperlink until my mouse passed over it and the mouse icon changed.

Last, but most important...don' t make your visitors scroll to the bottom of the screen to find the site navigation. Make as much information readily available on the screen as soon as the page loads.

I know it sounds like I' m bearing down on your site, but on the whole I liked it. It' s clean and crisp and professional.

Good luck.

i like it! Its clean and readable but I have to agree with SuperConductor

your image @ the top is too big.

the links need to be at the top of the page or on the left side - not at the bottom.

maybe the page is too long (?) - maybe you should break that first page up

Thanks guys...I made some changes as per your suggestions:

Re: the " Joseph J OBrien" being a link...the underlined web address at the bottom of that paragraph was supposed to be the only part that links, but I guess I had the entire section highlighted when I turned it into a link. I figured I' d just leave it alone...but maybe I should change it.

Funny thing, the picture of the waterskier is supposed to make you think it' s on Lake Wallenpaupack; actually it' s a shot I took in Lancaster County (about 3 hours south) on the Susquehanna River! :-)

Much, much better. Nice rearrangement of the main graphic.

...and you got rid of the side-to-side scroll, too. :)

It' s looking great.

P.S. Thanks for the tip about the spelling (for my tool site). I always have my wife look it over before going public. I stare at the text for so long that I don' t know my " it' s" from my " its" or my " your" from my " you' re" . My wife is my Software Quality Assurance team. :)
