looks great!

I would maybe change the title so its more recognizable. It takes a little effort to read. You could try just taking the shadow off, or putting it into a box/circle to let it stand off a little.

Hi Fuego,

Nice little site. I would tend to agree with Micah on the logo being a bit difficult to read. Also, the link images are a little light against the light blue. (Of course my eyes aren' t what they used to be[:j]). On the Portfolio page the link back to " The Shop" doesn' t work nor does it work from sjewelry.htm (the mailing list form page). Just thought you should know.:)

I agree with previous logo comments. Also, you might want to think about adding alt tags to your images.

:) Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I fixed the links, now I' m going to work on the title, and add the alt tags.
This is one of the clients that is computerless. But she' s smart enough to know she needs and wants a website.
The title and links are supposed to give a silver metal feel, and I am also having trouble with the choice of blue. Seems a little synthetic??? Not earthy like her jewelry? Maybe it' s just me not being a ' light blue' person.
Thanks again

Hi Fuego,

I agree with you. I don' t think the color of blue works really well with the jewelry. I don' t have time to play with colors right now but perhaps a more earthy tone would be better.

I only have one other thing (and this is just one of my personal pet peeves) on the shop page I would like to see the town and state noted where you are giving directions.

Nice site.

I' m not sure I like the shade of blue for the background, but that' s just me, I fear. I would suggest getting rid of the Times New Roman font. I like the graphics for the title, but I agree that the shadow is too intense or something. Make the shadow a little smaller, and perhaps black?

This feedback is nice. I don' t feel so alone. This forum really is a great watering hole.
I' m trying to think of the blues in nature. Chickory grows up here and is a brilliant blue, blue of the periwinkle, the greater bugloss is a nice blue between the chickory and the periwinkle.
Peppergal, I was curious about you saying get rid of TNR. I found a chart of web safe fonts at http://www.gateforce.com/support.fonts.html. Maybe Sans-Serif or Comic Sans?
It' s a little frustrating being limited to ' web safe' .
Thanks again for all the input. I' ll keep working on it.

The TNR font isn' t really good for the web--it' s a nice classic print font, though. Most everyone here will tell you to stick to ones like Veranda (my favorite), Arial, or the like. It' s best to stay with the sans serif font.

And my remark about the blue really is just personal preferance. there' s nothing wrong with it. I shouldn' t have said it! But if it were me, I' d go more with the periwinkle you mentioned or a less ' brilliant" shade of the light blue. Brighter colors tend to be more difficult on the eyes...but like I said, I think that' s more personal than anything else.

I' m going to work on the blue tomorrow. It has bothered me from the beginning. Liz want' s hers to be different, not the classic (Everybody does that) black for silver. But the colors are missing the contrast needed to accentuate her talent! Maybe the deep blue of the approaching storm.
Both she and I can identify with that. Our area has been slumped in drought. We are getting more rain now and the water table is rising.
She does not buy pieces from suppliers to put her jewelry together. She hammers and twist and drills through stones and studies each hand made glass bead along with the stones. And she is mother to a brilliant child.
Thanks for answering the font question. Another thought to store.

Glad to hear you' re going to change the blue. I didn' t comment on it originally, but I didn' t like it. It feels too ' light' to me, and gives a more amateurish feel to the site. A more solid shade would give the illusion of more substance.

Also just noticed that your nav links are not always visible. I would suggest you have a nav structure at the top of each page, as well as at the bottom, if your pages are more than one screenful in length. It would help to link the logo back to the home page as well.

The care and attention you are giving this client is indicative of someone who is going to do well in this field. Client relations are everything when it comes to getting more business, especially in a more remote community such as yours. (I speak from experience...:))

The font advice you received is good too. Have fun!

Perhaps they have chosen a better way of life.

Anyway, did you take the photos of the jewelry? I' m interested in the lighting technique used? Was it natural or diffused light? was a " slave " flash used?

The quality looks much better than the flash which is typically part of a consumer-level digicam. thanks in advance for your reply.

Hello, Fuego.

Here' s my 2 cents.

The color contrast ( background vs. graphic text ) makes it hard to read/decipher. And the Times New Roman is also better used for print than the web. Arial or Verdana would be a much more visual friendly font.

I told Liz about you guys helping us. She was overwhelmed that there were people from all over commenting on her website design unfolding.
I changed the font to Arial. The Verdana came off a little too fat feeling for this. This is a better blue. If you' ve got a better blue I' m open.
Her husband designed the title, a gift to her & her creativity, and I felt good working with it. This is her family giving. I repositioned the shadow and worked with the transparency to get it to black.
Gail, you are right. I had a studio in downtown Lynchburg overlooking the mighty James and it didn' t work. This works being here. I scanned the photo from her brochure, but the others were taken with Sony Mavica at the shop. I feel like I' m dancing with it, the focus fluctuating with the available light. We shot maybe 7 disc with Sony' s flash and available light. This is all we got.
Helene, thank you.
Seventh, you must have one computating brain to keep all that info organized and in place.
Paula, I love your thought for the day.
Sorry I didn' t answer sooner. We' ve been getting the Mac back up. And building Abey her own computer from parts. Harddrive installation was a success. Another learning curve with Mac......woe is me. Flash.
These children keep challenging me!
Thanks.

Fuego,

As peppergal found out on another string:

Her favorite font is Verdana

The new blue is much better than the other one, which was too bright, or something. And the logo looks great with the reduced shadow. good job!
