Client wants to update - 10/31/2002 4:18:42
I am starting work for a new client. He wants to have a " latest news and sale items" page that he can update rather than sending the information to me. Anyone know of any simple solutions to this ? They are only reasonably computer literate. Many thanks Peter

Have a look at this: http://www.thebeaches.to/jmwd/charity_ware/page_2.shtml What you are looking for is the page updater - there are three versions, so have a look to see which best suits you. They are inexpensive and the money you pay goes to charity which is nice. For a more complex but also much more powerful script, which is free, take a look at Coranto: http://coranto.gweilo.org/

Micah I will use includes when I build the site for them, but preumably this means that they will need to have a copy of FrontPage on their PC? Not sure how they would use a txt file other than then sending it to me for uploading to their site ? Regards Peter

Abbeyvet Had a quick look and it is maybe what I need. I will have to venture a little further (when time allows) and see if I can upload to my own site and see how it works. Many thanks Peter

Just give them rights to the directory where the .txt file would be stored. They in turn could download a free FTP client (WS_FTP comes to mind). Do a one time setup for the client and make the default directory on the web side to be where the .txt file would be stored. Brian

Good ideas... I never realized you could use a txt file with FP includes... or are you talking about SSI for the txt files?

Another problem with using FP includes for this sort of updating is that the content displayed from includes is not updated if just the include page is altered on the server. The old content will still appear until such time as the page in which the content is inlcuded is either uploaded or published again. So SSI it is.
